Home Theatre System

Hi fellas!

Needed some assistance from you all. We are setting up a home theater system and I recently visited the Big Picture people who gave me a demo of the Paradigm 9 speaker package. They gave me an estimated price of 2.8k without the amp. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Paradigm speakers before and are there any places where I can find them cheaper?

  • I have owned a few sets of HT in the past…I owned 3 sets of paradigm speakers (until a few years back though). They were excellent quality speakers (try polk or cambridge audio as well)

Just curious, with that budget why are you not looking at setting up a wireless wifi based system (Bose or Sonos ) ?
Sound quality is equally good with no wires + sound bar + woofer

    • +3

How did you get to the conclusion that wireless is"equally good"?

      • +1

Or that a soundbar + woofer is just as good as individual speakers, including floor standing speakers?

The Paradigm system would beat any soundbar + woofer system, and I currently use a Yamaha soundbar system, when previously used Dali speakers.

I've only switched to soundbar for convenience and ease of moving as I rent, and no point trying to mount surround speakers in a rental.

        • Any Yamaha speakers you'd recommend?

      • Once upon a time we had a family run business of HT components…and my dad was a guitarist , so picked up my likeness of speakers and systems from there.
I can't prove it online but if you get chance test by setting up Bose or Sonos speaker set ..use Play1 for surrounds and Play3 for L-R
        And soundbar plus woofer.

Much easier to control-flexibility-and ease of use and sound quality equal to if not better than the old setup.

    • Space really isnt an issue for us as we are setting up a dedicated home theater room. While sounds bars are really handy for lounge rooms, ideally I'd prefer a 5.1 wired system in the theater :)

    • Budget is around 3k. We are setting up a dedicated home theatre room so wired won't cause any issues for us :)

  • Paradigmn make some very good speakers.

Try AudioTrends in Ringwood. They have all their products on their website and their store is definitely worth a visit to listen to other options. I bought a set of Cabasse HT speakers and are very happy with them.

    • Just checked out their website. They seem to have quite a lot of stock. Will visit them and Rio Sound vision tomorrow :)

  • Can't say I've ever really seen/heard them before.

Speakers tend to be diminishing returns, and Australian suppliers tend to be overpriced. Personally I wouldn't be throwing this much money at some home theatre speakers unless you definitely knew you needed them.

Would echo Cambridge Audio in this role, which tend to be more sensibly priced, and have small satellite speakers (which aids WAF).
