70

Not 100% sure on the end date of this deal but it's for Australia day so I'd imagine that's the cut off. Normal price for the smoker is $249. (Shipping included.)

Excellent deal for anyone who wants a quality smoker. I own a Dusty Moose and rate it well.

Edit: Coles vouchers are available again.

  • Coles vouchers are sold out

      Was Weinstein involved?

I asked and there was silence

    • +2

the problem is there are too many wolves out there.

  • +1

Be great to hear from anyone who has experience with this charcoal smoker? There are others out there such as Charmate for less than half the price, but I have a feeling the Dusty Moose is higher quality.

    • I ain't used a charmate but I've seen one and it was flimsy and small. And the Moose is much bigger and much more solid. Which matters alot if you want to cook an actual rack of ribs or a proper sized brisket.

If you got any questions I'll answer it. I own a Moose, got one for Christmas.

Wouldn't mind hearing from someone that owns this aswell.

Looking to get into the low and slow bbq game.

    • +1

I own one, if you have any questions let me know.

The Moose is the biggest smoker you can buy for the price. (That I know of). It's built solid, has a massive water bowl and holds temperature. I've used it to cook turkey, brisket and chicken to perfection. I love it.

If I had to fault it the door doesn't make a 100% perfect seal. (Doesn't seem to effect the temperature, the vents do that) and one of the clips to hold it together didn't actually clip. Still holds together with the other 2 plus just flicking the other clip up over the holder.

Over all the size for the price is what sold it for me and I don't regret it.

Never seen or used one of these, but from the looks of it, I'm sure it works well.

If I were to choose a smoker for entry level, I'd bite the bullet, spend an extra $100 and buy the Fornetto Razzo from Bunnings. Much better build quality, more levels of cooking, taller, heat resistant handles and vent wheels - to mention a few.

Avoid that Charmate. It's thin and leaks, makes it harder to stabilise temps.

Source - been in low and slow for over a 18 months, owned all main bullet smokers (Razzo, Pro Q, WSM), multiple Weber kettles and built a UDS.

      • Fornetto Razzo

Bunnings calls it the Fornetto Bazzo - same thing?

      • +1

Hey bbqandbargains, we agree the Razzo is a good entry level bullet.

Just to clarify are couple of points re our 47cm smoker and the 47cm Razzo and 47cm Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM)-

Quality: subjective, but if steel quality/thickness is any indication our smoker weighs 16.5kg assembled, which within a couple of hundred grams to same size WSM and Fornetto. Grills are also stainless on Dusty Moose.

Levels of cooking: two levels on Dusty Moose, same on WSM. Razzo has a different configuration, with 2 baskets and 1 grill. This means the Razzo has more cooking area, but not more volume than the WSM and Moose. This is handy if you're doing a tonne of wings of something else small, but won't provide any advantage for brisket/butts/chooks/ribs on a rack as they'll only be enough room for one of the baskets.

Taller - Not significant, Moose is 115cm, Razzo is 117cm, WSM is 105cm.

Heat resistant handles: Yes on all for fire door. Moose and Razzo both have heat resistant handles on mid sections to allow easy access to fire mid cook, absence of these is a major design fault on WSM.

Vent wheels - Present on all

Price: Moose is $249 delivered including extras, Razzo is $369 pickup Bunnings southern states only (or delivered $389 through bbqxl, but currently out of stock), WSM is $749RRP

Extras: Moose and WSM also come with PVC cover, not sure about Razzo. Current Australia day special also includes $30 Woolies/Coles Vouchers (Coles now back in stock), 1kg smoking chunks and a 150g Lamb Rub (Dolly Dust).

        • Hey Dusty Moose, I agree with most of what you're saying.

          What I disagree with is:

The basket system not being handy on a big cut. You can, with ease, fit two 3-4kg Pork Butts/Lamb Shoulders in those baskets. I'm speaking from experience, where I catered for a group of 70 people, with the Razzo holding six pork butts and my 22" UDS filled with two 8kg+ briskets. Hell, you could even fit a 5-6kg brisket on each of those baskets and not have to worry about them hanging off the side and getting some direct heat, as the basket walls will keep them within the circumference of the water pan.

Height also becomes a deciding factor in this, as it enables the basket system.

What material are the side carry handles made of on the Dusty Moose? At first glance I thought they were metal, hence my heat resistant comment. Will happily retract it if you can tell me otherwise!

        • @bbqandbargains:

          Hi bbqandbargains,

Thanks for the info, we've only eyeballed the Razzo and not cooked in it. The baskets are deceptively large, as visually we couldn't picture large cuts fitting in with them stacked. This being the case, that configuration would provide some extra functionality for the Razzo in a catering scenario where you need to cook in excess of 15kg of meat in a single session.

With regard to height, the smoking chamber dimensions are virtually identical, but the Razzo has a third cooking level via the two baskets.

The central section and lid handles are hard plastic coated (not that they get hot given distance from heat source) and the fire/water pan door has a steel mechanism with a powder coated cool touch handle.

        • @Dusty Moose BBQ: Good stuff mate. Always happy to discuss BBQ. I think your product has a spot in the market, especially in those northern Australian segments. Will keep an eye on your stuff on Facebook. All the best!

  • Thanks sarcastic smoker. Do you know how accurate the temperature gauge is? I hear such gauges can be redundant as they do not accurately measure the temperature on the grill itself.

    • +3

Hey no worries. Well I got a wireless digital thermometer from their site so I'm not actively using the gauge. But when I do check then yea it seems accurate, but not the easiest to read. Like it's smallish.

Everyone who smokes meat will tell you that you should get some form digital. If not for the smoker it's self then for the meat.

  • I love using my red Razzo smoker/barbeque. I am sure it heats up quicker because of its colour :-) However, this may be a good deal with the included wood chips and Woolies voucher IF you qualify for free shipping.

    • Hi there ifonlyiwasyounger,

Sorry to our Sandgroper & Crow Eater friends for the freight surcharge. We're Brisbane based and unfortunately we currently don't have the ability to charge different freight rates for metro or regional in these states on our website, but we're working on it. If you're based in Adelaide or Perth (and surrounds), please reach out to us and we'll put together the best deal we can based on actual freight rates to your location.
