FAQ

It's showing me higher AUD price than mentioned in the title
* Choose USD as your currency from top left hand corner. Don't select AUD, always choose to pay in USD, it will work out cheaper even after your credit card conversion fees. Also read the below.

How do I ensure I get the cheapest AUD price possible
* To avoid higher currency conversion rates and to get cheapest price from these Chinese websites, you should get a credit card that charges zero currency conversion fees. 28Degrees, Bankwest Zero, Coles Mastercard are generally popular. Irrespective of what credit card you use, always choose to pay in USD on these Chinese websites, (Choose "USD" from top left hand corner). Additionally set your Paypal so it "bills you in the currency on Seller's Invoice". Doesn't work with Google Home?

    • Yea as mainland China not supported yet

  • Anyone know or have any idea whether this or anything similar works with Apple Homekit?

    • You need a PC or Raspberry Pi but I set up HomeBridge on my home server and got that working with a Logitech harmony setup so that activities appear in HomeKit. No control appears in HomeKit but I can use voice or control center to turn select devices on and off and the Harmony has a mobile app if I need a control anyway.

I’d need to check what exact plugins I used for HomeBridge. There’s one that is designed solely for Logitech Harmony integration with HomeBridge but it’d crash after like 10 mins pretty consistently and going on reports that was a common issue. Went a more round about way with an emulated Philips Hue hub and then used another tool that would connect to the Harmony but display activities as “lights” to that emulated Hue hub which HomeKit could in turn see.

Even that crashed once a day (HomeBridge doesn’t seem to be rock solid) so I coded up some stuff to restart the services nightly and automate the manual operations such as grabbing codes off one of the apps web ui etc.

Anyway it’s all doable but a bit messy to set up and took some stuffing around. I’d love Harmony to just release a compatible hub so I could do away with HomeBridge.

You need a functional remote to be able to set this up, or at least you do with the Broadlink mini. Also beware that not everything operates on 38k freq (e.g. foxtel and some air cons)

Its IR everything IR is same, which is why logitech remote works with everything

      • +2

IR is part of the EM spectrum. It's not a single frequency. The specs state
        "Infrared Frequency 38K"
Foxtel IR remote works on 56kHz.
I wouldn't count on this working for Foxtel.

        • So by your reasoning Logitech universal shouldnt work with Foxtel or A/C systems?

        • @asa79:
To be honest I don't know if the Logitech universal you're talking about covers 56kHz or not, Google may help you.
It is possible to cover the both frequencies used for IR remotes. The remote in the OP states it is 38K, I would not assume it covers 56kHz.

I would rather just get a Logitech Harmony remote.

Got one of these. Cant get it to work with my Mitsubishi HI aircon.
    Everything is in Chinese!

    • I used google translate to get the basic idea and then copied my remote by pushing the buttons and pointing at the device and then assigning the functions. Worked well. Yeah it all being in Chinese is a drag!

      • I was able to get my TV setup easy but also couldn't work out how to setup the aircon, will have to give it another go. I also have a Broadlink RM Mini (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354319) and it was easy to get everything working with that one.

  • Been wanting one of these for a while, as has the supreme turnip.

    Thanks OP.

Update: the supreme turnip hasn’t been wanting one, he just bought it because it was cheap.

  • Does this play nice with the Xiaomi home security kit/gateway like this (https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_600096.html)

  • Please Do a deal on rm mini3 or pro. It works better with hass.io

  • Do these work when the input device (iPhone) is not on the home wifi network? As in, can I remotely fire up the a/c when I'm on the way home so the house is nice & cool upon arrival…

    • +2

Yes, you create an account that can run the commands via the internet. It's not the best as it's not clear if you actually hit the on/off buttons sometimes. But it does work.

      • Cheers pal.

  • I had great hopes for mine, but only works with my lg air con and not my bauhn tv or fan

I bought and have no idea how to use it cos its all in chinese.

Ozbargain should really have a disclaimer on these products. Basically unusable if the user interface is all in chinese.
