Wanted to get some advise from Ozbargainers.
Currently on holiday in Launceston, Tassie, renting a hire car ( Holden Commodore V6) from Thrifty ( got NRMA members discount)- My first time hiring a car. Question is, before returning the car, in addition to topping up the fuel, do I get the car professionally cleaned? Yes, it has got a bit dirty from the KMs of driving.
Hired for 4 days.
Not that it would make any difference, but in case it does, I have zero excess with the ultimate cover package.
As always, thanks for your help.
And yes, I intend to call them to ask as well, but all their consultants were busy, and I was too tired to hold the phone with a waiting tone.

I have hired cars on a handful of occasions. I have never cleaned any of the cars before returning them, other than removing all my belongings and any rubbish.
Do you vacuum your hotel room before you check out?
Exactly this.
We have taken 4x4 site loan vehicles back caked in mud and just handed over the keys and no issue.
Just make sure you remove rubbish and that kind of thing, but as for cleaning it, no.
Ok, thanks. I get the idea. 😃
I was relating it to cleaning a carpet when leaving the rental property. My bad.You won't know unless you ask! :)
As long as u make an effort to remove rubbish, you are good.
They would clean it after receiving it back anyway so if you spent money or time cleaning it, it would be wasted.
No cleaning required.
a courteous thing to do would be to wash the car, no need for professional detailing
Use Rhino car hire next time. Great site I got an ASX through Thrifty for under $150 for 2 days. Very impressed
cleaned up the car reasonably before returning.
Thanks to everyone for their views.
I have never cleaned a rental car before returning it.
Usually the trunk is full of rubbish, car is covered in mud, and there is dirt everywhere.
This is particularly true after driving through sleet and snow.
The reason hotels don't have cleaning bays is because no one does it!
I wouldn't even give it a second thought, let alone pay to have it cleaned.
They have car washes and detailer onsite, and they clean every single car after it is returned anyway.
