Mountain Designs End of Year Sale - Baselayers 2 for $50 Including Merino [Now In-Store Only]

370

Plenty of deals have been posted already but it looks like Mountain Designs have added a few new deals including base layers at 2 for $50. Picked up some merino at a heavy discount. I'm not sure of the quality but have heard OK things.

10/1: It now appears to be in store only.

  • Aww, the thing I wanted sold out whilst I had it in my cart :(

Tbh I didn't really need it, was just a good deal xD

  • Try get Anaconda to price beat by 10% on the same item.

I looked at some Merrel Moab 2 hiking shoes last weekend - MD had reduced them to $155, and Anaconda was $195 (after 30% club discount), and they beat the MD price by 10%, bringing them to $140 (from $279).

    • im looking for some hiking shoes. How do you rate these so far? (you've probably done more research then me, i assume you've not done any hiking yet).

      • I've been doing some research and the Keen Targhee look pretty good value, there is only size 10.5 left in stock at mountain designs though :/

      • I've never worn them, but my partner used them to walk the Camino De Santeago, which was about 800km. They're still pretty good, the soles are just a bit thin now.

        • Which one of those boots are you talking about?

        • @clgt: Merrel Moabs

      • Love mines! Super comfortable and durable!

      • If you're doing anything on rock (like some climbing) all those boots and shoes will fall apart. If you're just walking (bushwalking) they should be OK. Where I live there is lots of dolomite, I tried 2 types of supposedly high end boots, both pairs destroyed in one day. Rock climbing was bushwalker standard (for the more adventurous bushwalker). That's why european walking boots are one piece leather - no stiching on sides.

      • I haven't tried them yet - only got them Sunday arvo. They (Merrel MOAB2) do get good reviews though. They also come in shoe, mid and high boots (MOAB = Mother Of All Boots), so if you need more support, just get the higher version. I wanted shoes for walking and I wanted waterproof ones, hence the Gore-Tex.

The Keen Targhee II also get good reviews. My wife bought Keen, but not Targhee.

This morning I could click on the links to view items, but now it appears the links to each of the combined (2 for xx) specials have been removed and it now says "Instore only".

  • Worth noting that if you want to get some Mountain Designs merino (which seems to me to be better quality than the Kathmandu of equivalent weight), you should do it as part of this sale. The guy I talked to in-store before Christmas said they were changing all their merino products over from 100% merino to their core-spun fabric, which is merino around a nylon core.

Which may or may not be a good thing…

  • Word is that Mountain design is closing all of its stores. Watch out for a fire sale.

    • Only about a third for now.

    • Wollongong is one of them - last day of trade today - upto 80% off however not much of anything left. All shoes 60% off which is probably the biggest draw-card on high end brands - down to last pairs in mixed sizes.

      • the industry word is the rest are closing soon.

  • Damn, instore only now? 2 for $50 is an insane price, if it included most of their Merino range. Nearest store is ages away alas.

  • Great deals to be had, get on it.

  • Instore (apparently a non closing down store) the merino 200 baselayer tshirt I brought scanned up at $15.99
