Xbox 360 S 4GB $58, 250GB + 1 Game $88 (All Pre-Owned) and More "Managers Specials" at EB Games

780

Great prices for those who missed out on some Xbox 360 exclusives. Here are the details;

  • The "S" model is the upgraded model from the original model. Does not RROD and has a very very small chance of failing in comparison to the aforementioned.
  • The 4GB model has flash storage and the 250GB has a proprietary removable hard drive already inside. Both can support external storage options with a USB Flash Drive or Portable External Hard Drive.
  • 250GB is plenty of space, given the biggest file size for a downloaded game is 9GB at most. 4GB is ideal for just save files.
  • A number of later-release Xbox 360 games will require the second disc to be installed to storage, meaning the 4GB alone is useless. Games (from memory) include; GTA V, Battlefield 3, Shadow of Mordor, Metal Gear Solid V, Guitar Hero Live and more.
  • 99% of stock I imagine will be in black. There could be a chance of a limited edition variant, such as the red Gears of War 3-themed colour scheme or the R2-D2 one. Stocks will vary between store, best to call to check.
  • The controller should be an official wireless one, but there could be a chance of a wired third-party one. Again, stocks vary and call to check.

Surely if it's nationwide and online it's not a Managers [sic] Special.

    • +1

It's probably the regional managers managing this sale, hence the name.

      • +1

        Fair enough then.

        • +11

Managers Special is the promotion name. It's the foot long sub of the retail industry.

        • @Cubist:
How much is a foot long sub at Manager's Special pricing?

  • -1

So… The S model is better but can't play new games cos of the memory???

    • +1

You wouldn't be able to play games that required extra content to be installed from a disc, most games aren't like that though. Digital games may be more of an issue without an extra hard drive as majority of the non-arcade games would be well over 4gb

    • +4

Nah you can use any ordinary USB HDD, they got rid of the memory limitations in one of the later firmwares

  • +5

XBox 360 and GTA IV is the best

    • +4

      Have you played GTA V?

      • +3

        yes

        • +13

This might be the first time someone prefers GTA IV over V (not intending to bag you out).

          Let's go bowling, cousin!

        • +4

@silverrat23: I liked IV better as well, it had more "heart", both great games though.

        • +4

          @silverrat23: I immensely prefer IV over V.

I will still say V is a better game in almost every aspect, but I prefer IV and it's story any day. When IV was announced as coming to the BC program I literally got up out of my chair, did four or five jumps, fist pumped and all, probably showed a bit much ass, and sat down.

That was the first day of my current course too. Worth it.

This brings back memories. Wonderful memories. I loved GTA 4.

          @TheDukeOfNukem:

I prefer IV and it's story any day

Me too. GTA 5's story isn't as good and the 3-character mechanic is just awful.

    • +5

      San Andreas!

      • +6

I couldn't really get into either IV or V after playing San Andreas. I feel like that was the peak in the series.

        • +1

Ditto. Hopefully next one is good. RDR soon :o!

        • Did you forget Vice City!?

Damn, man been playing that recently too - absolute classic.

        • @The Gent: I did! I loved VC almost as much. Great memories of trying to use the crap flying car cheat in a tank, turning the turret around, spamming fire and flying around the map.

        • @coco91: June the 8th release, they keep putting the date back :(

      • +5

        Nah Vice City!

        • +1

          U that real MVP.

        • True I forgot about VC, that was my OG.

        • +1

Everytime the Havana song comes on the radio it just brings back memories cruising around in little Havana

        • Also forgot about VC, both awesome!

        • @Gnosh:

Loved the 80s music in VC

Make love and listen to the musiccccc

    The last great console.

    • +7

      Pfft get off the crack

    • +2

It's good that they got over the RROD.

    • +7

Dreamcast was the last truly great console

      • +9

Oh pul-ease, everyone knows gaming gained perfection in 1978 with the Magnavox Odyssey 2.

        • Nuuuuuuuuuooooooooohhhhhhh

  • +1

I remember getting the Xbox 360 S 4GB a few years ago for around $78 brand new.

    • Xbox One Soooooon….

  • Is the evil within 2 and prey worth it for $68? Cause I'm sure the keyboard and mouse ain't worth much. Not even a proper mech keyboard…

    • I've Seen Prey for as low as 19$ and Evil Within 2 For 49$, (both on Big W and on Console.)

      • Cheers.

On Big W? You mean PC?

  • -2

Can you change it so your listing says "Slim", like the ad does, instead of "S"?

(Like many of the people who'd be looking to buy one, I don't know much about the various xbox's and actually thought it was the Xbox One S for a couple of confused minutes. I'm probably even dumber than most, but, still, why call it "S" instead of the real name?).

    • +6

The real name IS Xbox 360 S. People call it slim because when you say slim people know what you mean, the S is indicative of it being slim anyway, but it's official proper name is Xbox 360 S.

  • +6

Not sure if I would want to use someone else's sweaty controller.

    • Plus, they're not even guaranteed to be official Microsoft stock.

    • Definitely.

I bought a 360 a couple months back at Cashies for 39 bucks with 2 controls and some other shit, traded one of the controls as it was just gross, the joysticks literally felt like they'd been melted with a lighter, all out of place and they dragged when you'd play and everything, it was disgusting, no wonder Cashies were selling it all so cheap.

EB gave me 21 and change for the remote there and then. They take in some gross crap.

  • Can these be modded for emulation? Without soldering?

    • Question 1: Yes.
Question 2: Not as far as I know.

    • Also, if you mod it, you can use any internal hard drive.

      • Argh. That's what i thought. No point buying then spending another $80 for modding service. Can look for old wii u and mod easily

      • You can use any 2.5inch SATA HDD without modding. I had a 60GB HDD from the old white Xbox which died from RROD, took it out of the weird HDD enclosure that MS used and it works fine on the S.

  • +2

If you have any spare portable USB hard drives, just get the Xbox 360 S model with the inbuilt 4Gb storage for $58. I use external USB drives with my Xbox 360's and don't notice any speed differences between those and the models with the inbuilt hard drive :)

I use external Seagate USB3 1Tb and 2Tb portal drives with zero issues (note that the Xbox 360 only uses USB2 though, but it seems fine)

Unless you want the extra game of course, then get the more expensive one. EB Games often have sales on the <$18 titles - often buy 1 get 1 free, and I've even seen buy 1 get 2 free (I got quite a few good games that way)

    • +1

This won’t work for games that “require” the inbuilt HDD though. Destiny is one of them, even with an external USB drive working fine for everything else, it refuses to install he game. By that, I don’t mean disc install, but game install.

      • +1

Wow you're right - I had to google that. I've never seen a game need that before, so I'm guessing it's very rare to find a game that needs an internal hard drive. GTA V for example installs installs one DVD to the external hard drive and needs the other DVD in the drive to be able to play.

        • I think it may be the only outlier, I guess it’s due to the changeover in generations and the ways the new consoles handle things :)

        • @IHateFrasierCrane:
Guitar hero live also needs an internal hdd for online. External usb won't work

  • +5

Not sure how many people really care anymore (I do, personally), but you need an OFFICIAL Xbox hard drive if you wanna play OG Xbox games on it, classics like Spider-Man 2, GTA: Vice City, Halo 1&2, and so on, will only work with an official Xbox hard drive in there.

Though to be honest, gone are the days of finding cheap Xbox games everywhere, sure, there's still a few good Cashies shops, but half of them seem to think "This game is more than ten years old, I better charge 20 odd for it instead of the 3 or 4 I'd have charged in 2012"

    • 3/4 of the ones that are worth playing are likely to pop up on the Xbox One BC soon enough anyway if you really want to play original titles, so perhaps the One is the better option for those.

  • lol @ managers specials.
    more like over inflated

  • I have what I believe was the first HDMI xbox, it is white and is the original shape. I am considering buying one of these because I have about 50 games of which I have only had time to play about 3 right through, and between gaining built in wifi (adding wifi was 150 bucks last time I checked) and dodging RROD I was thinking it could be worth it.

Can someone give me any other reasons to get or not get one? Eg. Modding, using as a media centre in another room, link play (if that is supported?) or not to get one (e. G. Xbox one supporting 360 games anyway so maybe invest in that when they are cheap?)

    • Lol buy slim, pop bigger HDD into slim and small into old one, put 4gig old as media drive and new as game player

      • I actually have a 60Gb currently and a 120gb that a friend gave me when his RROD but I haven't installed it as I believe I need a data transfer cable I dont have. Figure I can always find an old hard drive lying around that I can add in for free, however wasn't sure if this was the 2nd model or 3rd as I think the 3rd didn't support I ternary hard drive from memory?

        • Can you just push save data to the cloud and re download any titles?

Might also be able to attach a USB drive, move data to that then move it back to an internal. Not 100% sure though but I assume it’s be ok.

        • @Smigit: when I put the 120Gb drive in it has a cow, can't remember the error exactly but noting I could do would work. The drive is somehow signed to the original xbox it was used in and when you put it on another one it won't let you use it, so I believe the data transfer cable let's you move the signature from your old drive to your new one. Not sure if that's all accurate but it's been a long time

      • As I remember, the OG xbox HDDs are these really weird form factor clip-in BS things: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/54oAAOSw9KhZ8fgv/s-l1600.jpg

So a conventional HDD wouldn't help.

        • Yeah that's the ones I have, the unit came with a 60Gb (pro) and the one I was given was a 120Gb (elite). For something that was put on the outside of the unit and made easy to take on and off, it's a PITA to actually change to a new one.

    • The 360 is a cheap Netflix machine, makes much less noise than the original model and has a smaller footprint. Also, it looks better if you don't mind the glossy surface.

      • Just regarding the glossy surface, is this the last 360 or the 2nd shape? Does it have Stan?

        • It's the second model out of the three. Yours is the original, this one is the S and the last is the E model.

There is no Stan app on the Xbox 360.

  • I wouldn’t go for this. If I chose now, it would be a brand new Xbox 360 E.

    • Why and how much does one go for?

    • Nothing wrong with the S, I got both the S and E versions

    • S is better than the E, E is a more cheaply made 360.

      • +1

Agree, sort of - I have both, the "E" is a fraction quieter and looks a bit more like an Xbox One. But for the "E" they removed the SPDIF digital audio output, the old AV port and a USB port I think.

If you only use HDMI then it makes no difference but if you use SPDIF digital output to an AV Receiver then you want the "S" version :)

        • Yes, I did not mean E was worse than S, just that it is a cheaper production model than the S-which makes perfect sense for an end of life iteration.

  • +1

"Manager's Special" is code for need to get rid of this crap fast.

  • the 4 GB is showing $68
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-163806-Xbox-360-Slim-E-4G…
it's in store only promo got it

    • You have linked to the "E" model, not "S"…but it is now $58 on sale as well.

  • Anyone know which is the better model to hack between the S and the E?
