4 Hours Layover at Bangkok

I have a little over 4 hours layover at Bangkok (4:40 PM to 9 PM) on Tuesday, is it worth going to Bangkok city considering the traffic, and be back on time for Security and immigration process? Is there any train from Airport to City?

Risky. There is a train, but 4 hours is tight.
Does that include time to re-checkin? (as in your plane leaves at 11pm or thereabouts?)
Do you have priority pass membership with credit card?

    • The plane leaves at 9 pm .. I am in Bangkok from 4:40 PM to 9 PM local time

I do have Priority pass basic membership. Are you referring to a Lounge use?

Sorry mate… but I'd agree with @battler that you're pushing your luck there.

Considering you've gotta check in for your next flight well before 9pm, you're gonna be hard pressed to have any time in Bangkok city.

        • Yep plane leaves the ground at 9pm, you need to check in, do the security bit, and board the plane way before all that happens.

Basiaclly OP, you'll get into the city, get 5 mins to look around and then head back. Just don't do it.

    You will not make it

Next post from OP… Missed my connection in Bangkok, what do I do, I don't have travel insurance!

        And the follow-up could be;

Missed my connection, again! This time by sleeping. Help?!?

Followed by reports of missing time, with a few random selfies with a ladyboy…

Not worth the stress. It can take an hour to get through immigration each way if you’re unlucky. Have a good pad thai at the airport and people watch instead.

    Do not leave the airport.
There are 2 airline lounges that you can access with PPASS. AirFrance and Oman Air. I have been to Oman Air and it was brilliant, and as good as Emirates Business class lounge, which is pretty spectacular.
Miracle lounges are ok, but not great!
By Thailand standards, massages are not cheap at the airport, but cheaper than Australia.

Khop kun krab - happy ending for you sir!

is it worth going to Bangkok city

    First time travelling I'm guessing?

The answer is NO…. Just hang at the airport, look around, eat/drink and then get on the plane.

be back on time for Security and immigration process?

The plane LEAVES at 9PM, so you'll be board, through Security/immigration etc way before this happens.

just enough time for a quickie !

If Mohamed cannot get to the mountain, then have the mountain come to Mohamed. I am sure that if you check the local Yellow Pages you will find an "escort/massage" service that will visit you.

Four hours isn't a very long time.

The immigration queue to get out is unpredictable and is sometimes huge. When I say huge, I mean huge!!

Then the traffic out and back into the airport is also unpredictable. Not just that, the taxi driver might also take you for a ride around the block to jack up the fare.

It's really not worth the stress.

No way, 45mns-hr to get out on the street then 1 hr peak hour into city, 1 hour back, then clear security immigration get to gate 45 mins and board 45 mins before departure.

My last 2 times arriving were very quick but the times you quote or worse are not uncommon in my experience.

Nope. You will be lucky to have time to do a bog

If it is the same airline you will just transit.

If it is diff airlines, I hope your first flight is not delayed

  • +3

Also, do not go out through Immigration! IE. Remain 'Airside' !

  • +5

Thanks all for suggestion, I will stay airside as suggested

  • Use the lounge, take your time and have a feed, do a poop, have a shower, have a scotch and be golden for the next leg.

  • Book a sleep hotel and get some fresh Thai delivered….

    Which airport?

  • get a thai massage too….. i think they do full body massages? if you use Adelaide CBD as guide to the popularity of thai massages………:-)

  • No chance, the plane may arrive on time but you won’t. All the time queuing to get off the plane, through immigration, waiting for a cab/train, etc and back again you wouldn’t have a chance.

Remember too that the plane will actually board 30-45min before departure time so you have even less time than you think.

  • I wouldn't risk going into the city for such a short amount of time. If you want to go somewhere book an airport hotel - many include 2 way transfer.
