Sunbeam Foodsaver VS4300 Vacuum Sealer (Factory 2nd) $39 @ 2nds World

200

After purchasing an Anova I was on the hunt for a vacuum sealer. I couldn't find any of the $19 Target ones but stumbled upon this one at 2nds World. I picked it up from the Mentone store and they had heaps in stock. The sales guys tipped me off that the green and white style boxes had a longer roll of sealing bag than the red style boxes. Which when looking at the contents was true.

$119rrp for a new unit, these are $39 pick up or plus postage and have 12 month warranty anyway.

Reading a lot of the bad reviews, a lot of people may have issues with knowing how to use the thing. You do have to be careful and precise when using these i've found.

At the price above, you can't even get a non-brand version so it sounds pretty good to me.

      • what issues?

        • quite a few reviews saying they took them back to the store of purchase and the store was able to get it working.

  • correct bags are needed..

Just a warning that many people who bought these from the previous deal didn't get a long roll of bags. The one I got only had about 1 meter. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324752

Thats a wicked price for this unit.
I have the same one (paid $100).

I was concerned with the bad reviews. Mine has been good.
Just be aware its a very basic unit.

I use mine for Sous Vide as well as longterm freezer storage too now.
You can get thick good quality sealer rolls for a little over $1/metre on Ebay (28cm width).
If you're paying more you're getting ripped off.

do you have a link for ebay?

      • there looks to be a lot of sellers with this sort of thing under $1/m on there. That said, i'm sure some are better than others

  • Is this better then Target one?

    • +1

If you can find any I go to 5 target no one have them, or maybe I am not lucky because ozbargain army just passby

      • I got a Target one, but wondering if its worth the upgrade to this one?

        • This one wouldn't be a upgrade, but good for a spare one when the other one dies.

  • Newbie question. Is 28cm max width or only width? Can i use smaller bags with this?

    • +1

You can use a smaller bag.

I got one last time it was at this price - not very happy with it.

First there is no seal only button so if i just want to seal one edge of the bag it turns on the vacuum and makes a really loud sound. I also struggle to get it working most of the time as well. Sometimes i get good results but its inconstant. Sometimes it wont even seal at all.

    • yeah and theres no way to use the accessory port without sealing as well.

  • Hey Chillybags,
Youre right in that it goes through the vacuum cycle if you want to seal only.
But I use it all the time for seal only.

Its a good basic unit, but ideally you'd want a unit with a separate seal function, one that doesn't require you to push down on it while vacuuming, and also a moisture setting.

I got around to trying it out today. Sealed 4 steaks individually and it worked fine. I cut the roll to suit the size, sealed one end, put the steak in and vacuum sealed it. Like in the reviews, hold both front corners of the machine down firm and you hear the two clicks of both switches then it does its thing. It's a little noisy but whatever. Wait for both lights to turn off then press the release button.

I'll try sous viding a steak tomorrow to see how it holds up but I think it'll be good.

    Happy with this one.
