    Lol… terrible description..reported

    • +2

Yes, but the pushing doorbell would be most happying for me did it come also.

    • +1

Don't think the problem is too many Xiaomi deals, the issues seems to be the number of devices on offer per deal …. e.g one windows switch …. who has only one window, or 1 movement detector, who has only one room.

so for 500 gateways you will bee needing 1000's of sensors.

500 gateways ….. well many people only have one property they want to add the gateway too, and if you have more you probably don't care about price with melb / syd house prices.

      • +1

not entirely sure what u mean

  • +7

Hi. Can some post the xiaomi 5 in 1 package deal?

    • +8

      Yes, ask jv

    • +8

I've asked the GB rep for one, still waiting for a code to be provided

  • +2

    Lol

  • Any deal on Xiaomi ROIDMI 3S USB Bluetooth/FM Car Charger? Thanks

    • If it rains tmr, then yes.

  • What devices can pair with the gateway?

    • -4

It pairs with all of the compatible devices

  • LITBGATE? More like Xiaomigate '18

  • +1

Bought thanks. But didn't get a confirmation email from LITB.

    • +5

At least, you didn't get spammed.

    • Came through half hour later

  • What is everyone plugging these into? They won't fit properly on a 99% of regular Australian GPOs because they'll foul the switch. Powerboards?

The little power module smart switch has the same problem.

    • +4

Use regular double adapter to angle it downward?

    • +6

I just turn the switch on before plugging it in and it sits in far enough to stay on and not switch it back off.. never fallen out or felt like falling out either.. shrugs shoulders

      • Same as what I do on mine, no issue.

      • but not sitting in correctly. fire issue?

        • +1

Unlikely as they are a very low current device. High current through a bad connection can result in things getting hot and melting. Pretty low chance really.

One of those side by side double adapters (not the old 45 degree ones) might be the best actually. Will lose one of the outlets but that's not a big deal.

      • +1

I used an adapter to have it stick out a little so can still safety use the switch

    • I bought little 1m extension leads from bunnings, then trimmed the "boot" plastic (that normally covers where the next cable / device would plug in) so it sits flush.

Worked for both the gateway, and the smart sockets and lets me use standard outlets / powerboard ports without problems.

      • You realise what those "boots" are for though right? They are a safety thing preventing the terminals from being exposed when plugging/unplugging.

In the same way, proper Australian plugs have some insulation on the pins (and a protruding section on adapters that match the boot etc). The Chinese gear doesn't have any of that. I think these are compliance requirements these days.

        • Agreed, normally i wouldn't do so, however the choice between a flush mounted device that won't short out that is slightly exposed when being plugged in (once) is better than the alternative of jamming it against a switch, or leaving it hanging partially out, exposing the pins all the time.

With that said - Always turn off the power point before moving it in or out of the cable as a minimum.

I can get the Xiaomi stuff to talk to LIFX but only through IFTTT right?

    • +3

    • +2

      Home Assistant

      • ^This.

The real value of the Xiaomi stuff is not in itself, its in the automation you get from connecting it all together via something like Home assistant.

        • +1

Its very flexible at a much lower price then some of the big players

  • +2

Great deal, only if I needed another one. My current wifi gateway has about 6 sensors, and couple of switches connected to it. very pleased with the range of these things, mind you there is no LOS (Line of sight) between the gateway and end devices, and its still pick it up.

Currently waiting for xiaomi aqara temp sensors, xiaomi plug (ZigBee), and RGB yeelight light bulb deals - the current deals are not the best price, so holding on. We can never have too many Xiaomi deals!

    • Ordered my hub last week for $26. Yeah waiting for zigbee plug specials.

  • Is this like Xiaomi version of Google Home ?

    • +2

Nope, not exactly. This is your gateway to make xiaomi sensors / switches / plugs talk to each other. This device, together with the Xiaomi app, you can use it for home automation, i.e. if you use xiaomi door/window sensor and you programmed the gateway to alert you if someone open the door and left it open for a while etc, activate an alarm.

I use Home Assistant with these device, and can do very neat home automation.

      • and how would you pair this with voice assistant devices, the likes of Amazon Alexa or Google Home?

        • +2

Don't think you can pair this device directly with Alexa/Google assistant - there may be ways, I've not explored it.
My Xiaomi devices connected to the gateway, has some indirect connection to Alexa and Google assistant, all thanks to Home assistant.

But I know some Xiaomi devices can be paired directly, i.e. the Yeelight lightbulbs, light strip etc, you can pair this without the gateway and control it via Alexa and Google assistant.

        • @Marbel:

Just a question about Xiaomi products and Home Assistant. Is all you have to do is connect the devices/sensors/lights to the Gateway and then you can use Home Assistant to set up all automation?

        • +1

          @pogiguy:

Yes. That's correct. Once you have the gateway configured. Really not that hard to integrate the rest of the xiaomi devices to home assistant.

For xiaomi gateway, there is a service that you call in home assistant that will allow you to add device for 30 seconds.. it puts the gateway in 'add device' mode, all you need to do is press the pin hole in the xiaomi device for 5 seconds.

You'll be surprised about the amount of home automation possibilities you can do with home assistant.

        • @Marbel:

          Thanks for that info.

I'm keen to set up some small automation at home and then as a security alarm when not at home.

          Cheers!

Don't use machine translation blindly. Xiaomi's name in Chinese isn't hard to find, simply go to xiaomi.cn.

        • @alvian: I was just testing you; I for one know now that you're Korean.

    • There is a Xiaomi Speaker that will use Corona and be a competitor to Google Home, but knowing MS they will drop support like Windows Mobile

      • If you put the speaker into a house in Point Piper will it automatically switch to using Grange or a Pinot?

I am putting a pause on all 'yum cha shop' electronics, until i get the last 4 i bought delivered… I'm sure more Xiaomi deals will come up.

    • +2

yay, one less for you.. one more for me? ;)

  • Not sure if this company still has shipping issues into AUS like it did with the powerbanks. ref: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/345809

    • Shipping power banks into Aus is simply a customs issue. This isn't a power bank so there'll be nor problem.

  • I asked the gearbest rep for a Xiaofang deal and a Broadlink Mini deal and they gave me two non working codes. Anyone got anything special on these two?

    • Bought a couple of the DaFang 1080 cameras from GB recently. The rep gave me this code "Xmas405", but not sure if it's still working.

  • +1

hmm comes up as $27.52 ????

  • -4

    OP declare affiliation?

    • +7

I am not affialted with LITB in anyway, the rep just told me the code and I posted. You can go ask LITB yourself or hit the report button.

  • Could you tell me where to put in the coupon Code? Could not find it.
Is it version 2 or 'upgrade version'?

    Thanks

    • Me too, where's the code go?

      • Found it, you have to go right through to payment and theres a smal "apply code" line

  • Can someone open up Xiaomi warehouse based in Western Sydney area? Plenty of land available near Badgery Creek.

    • Now to get negged by the Confucious Institute members who monitor this site.

they should have a warehouse in Australia, Hobby King has one and they keep some items in Australia so people don't have the cost and delay of postage from HK warehouse ….. Xiaomi won't even spit on us in Australia…. they don't know where Australia is…. their phones come with obscure pacific islands as a setting but not Australia.

Julie Bishop, please go to China and so some shoe shines so they know who we are and give us local presence / distribution / settings in their devices.

Sam Dastryali …. well you are about to retire from parliament, so probably less influence unless your kick backs included retirement perks.
P.S Sam you should have sold a port, comes with a $1M pay packet not $1500.

      • you know you can tweet them instead of trying to talk to them here right?

        • +2

waiting for twitter server notification when Trump shuts up.

        • @garage sale: 😂 lol!

  • got one! need door sensors now!

  • +1

All ready have one, not sure why I bought another one, will give to my 11 years old (my STEM contribution for national innovation, Malcolm, you've inspires the nation) and see if works with his Philips Milight which he got for christmas, think a bundle would have been better value to get the power point, motion detector and windows switch, rather than chasing with coupons to save a few dollars…. and coupons are always 1 per account so unlikely to get 5 windows switches or motion detetcors in one on offer as the incentive is for new customer so they can spam more people.

    • I've got one too that I got with my 5 in 1 kit purchased in the recent GeekBuy deal, my gateway refuses to pair however and I can't get any replies from Geekbuy.

      • You should PM Clear, he should be helpful.

      • I had trouble with my gateway until I changed everything in my Xiaomi account to mainland China then it worked. Was a pain since I already had some yeelights set up around the house that needed re-pairing but once they were done it was smooth sailing

  • Any experience with shipping time with these guys? Suggests 2 weeks (3-5 days for processing and 4-5 days shipping)… Faster than gearbest as I read somewhere they take 3-4 weeks?

    • Yup easy 4 weeks. Honestly I don't believe gearbest, Bangood and light in the box are different stores…

      • So 4 weeks for gearbest or light in the box?

        • Both. Same store ;)

    • I ordered some Xiaomi gear from Gearbest on the 17th of December and it was delivered on the 27th. Considering the time of year I was blown away. I ordered a Xiaomi tv box from them in June and it took 7 weeks. Go figure

      • +1

it's hit and miss depending on who the seller is on the site I think, I allow 4 weeks, often arrives faster.

The trick is don't buy if you need it urgently but don't want to pay for the non-free postage options.

I've had phones sent express, fast, but postage was expensive.

  • Can gateway communicate with each other. I mean can you control devices on each gateway using single action from MI App

    • Yes they all show in the same app, they talk via the cloud not directly to each other. You can use automations across gateways

  • What is the range on the gateway? How far can the sensors be?

  • Still working?

  • It is often said these Xiaomi products don't comply with Aussie electrical regulations. Would it be any different if someone has safety switches installed at their home?

    • Well they don't. A safety switch doesn't magically make non compliant devices compliant, so no it's not different.

They don't have any ACMA compliance documentation and no electrical safety certifications for Australia.

      • Thanks for the input.

Bottom line, what are the dangers associated with using them?

        • Usual issue with mains powered devices is isolation which is a human safety issue. Basically the low voltage outputs (USB outputs/inputs etc) are not properly isolated. USB chargers are notorious for this.
          e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNoGCdX1IdQ

For something like the gateway which doesn't have any external connections, it's less of a concern and the power supply doesn't necessarily even need isolation as there are no accessible circuitry parts. Then the problem becomes a potentially inferior power supply with components failing and say melting the case or starting a fire. The plastics may not be very good quality and might burn. So baaically a fire risk.

I think the Xiaomi stuff is probably going to be reasonable quality but they seem to source products from different places hence units that are similar and the random wide range of stuff they sell.

Finally smaller things like the pins aren't isolated (see above) like Australian products are these days. But go back 10 or 20 years and Australian stuff wasn't either, so I wouldn't say this is critical, just an improvement we have.

Finally there's RF interference and supression requirements they are not qualified for but this is not a safety concern.

        • @Shonky:

Thanks a lot for the informative reply. Makes me think twice before buying them.

Am I right in assuming that a circuit breaker does not necessarily prevent a fire if the case melts etc. ?

        • @Gloriaaa:
It might prevent a fire. However a circuit breaker in your house "fuse" box is there to protect the wiring in the walls, sockets etc, not necessarily protect any devices that are plugged in.

A standard wall socket is rated at 2400W. 2400W of power can easily cause a fire (think what a 2400W bar heater could do). All this without the circuit breaker (or safety switch if separate) tripping .
