Selling Car Easiest Option VIC

Hi guys,

So I've recently been pushed to sell my little Suzuki Swift after only a few months of ownership.

I'm trying to find some info on selling it privately the most efficient way possible as I'm out of here by the end of Jan.
I'm running through the list of things I need to do to get it off my hands and I've noticed on CarSales.com.au people have their cars listed as having no RWC in Victoria.
Does anyone know how people are managing to do that when in order to change rego, you need to provide the change of ownership and RWC to VicRoads? There's no doubt in my mind it'll pass the RWC, but it seems like such a waste of money if it's possible to find a work around.

Thanks for any/all help and advice in advance

You can do that if you find a customer willing to purchase a car without one - it simply transfers the cost of the RWC onto the buyer so they make seek a reduced price from you.

Easiest way to sell a car is to a dealer - but you won't get a good price. Get a RWC, post it on Gumtree for free or Carsales for a small fee, know what your car is worth and what you're really prepared to accept for it.

    • It stands to reason, I should hold off on the RWC until I have a buyer then? As it only lasts the 30 days…

Depends, if you have a hard end date of Jan then might be good to get it done but be prepared to discount if it doesn’t sell by month end.

That is logical, but as you state that you are leaving by the end of Jan so the 30-day validity is largely irrelevant.
It would be more efficient to have the RWC already, and the sale can progress without delay / same day. If you don't, there will be a delay in any sale while you arrange for the RWC, re-contact the potential buyer, etc.

      • Thanks guys, much appreciated

post it on Gumtree for free or Carsales for a small fee

      Why not both?

Also if you're asking under $5,000 it's FREE to post on Carsales. It's also free to list on carsguide regardless of asking price.

You can also post it on Facebook buy/sell groups. The more you can advertise it the better chance of a sale and a good price I think.

Although I sold a few cars last year and all sold via Gumtree haha.

It's best to sell with a rwc IMO this will get you the best price and it's worth the small investment.

  • What is RWC? Is that like a Greenslip in NSW or is it the safety check for the slip?

If you want to sell the car you want to ensure its currently registered so the new buyer can legally test drive it and your insurance is valid.

    • Road Worthy Certificate, completed by a certified mechanic that the car is mechanically sound and legal to drive on Victorian roads.

    • It's like a Pink Slip/Safety Check in NSW for cars over 5 years old.

      • Thanks, it seems that in VIC you need to have a RWC completed 30 days before selling a car. Interesting.

        • yeah we don't have RWC equivalent in NSW I recon given green slip is mandatory for rego

          @enzioFirenze:

RWC is NSW Pink Slip equivalent. Can’t transfer rego without it in VIC afaik
