  • Old news - been since the start of December but still good :)

    • +3

It was going to end just before Christmas but is now staying around

  • +7

Makes me wonder what was the point of scanning the reward card before then?

    • +10

Getting your spending habits for free?

    • +3

keep a record for refund maybe?

    • +1

Do you mean you have still been scanning it since they originally remove BigW from the program?

      • +1

When did they remove Big W?

        • +3

When they changed from Everyday Rewards to Woolworths Rewards. They added it back for the pre Christmas 2016 and 2017 periods offering triple points.

        • @cynic: How about scanning Flybuys at Kmart or Target?

        • +1

          @sween64:

How about scanning Flybuys at Kmart or Target?

          that's still good.

    Hasn't it always been 1ppd?

    • +1

The program hasn't existed for BigW for a long time.

      • +1

Oops shows how often I go there!

        • KMart has cuter chicas.
Big W have saggy ole bitties

    • They stopped it for a while.

  • +5

    about time to be fair.

  • I thought Big W and Woolies Rewards parted ways like, a looooooong time ago?

    • They did. They have now undone that.

  • -1

    It was 5x during xmas

  • Any good Woolies Rewards sign up deals at the moment?

  • Need a Switch deal from Big W then!

  • +1

It also baffles me that Woolies own Dan Murphys but there's no integration with Woolies Rewards. However you can pay using WISH cards.

But if you buy from BWS then you can earn Woolies reward points (and also pay using WISH gift cards..)

    • +5

Dan's margins are pretty thin when you compare it to BWS.

      • Maybe. But I don't know if Dan's cost base is more or less than BWS so

        • Is the margin less ? Does DM have a better buyer than BWS (or do they all buy through the same buying group?)
        • Is DM cheaper to run than BWS ? that could mean the margin might be the same or it could be even more profitable

I haven't seen any breakdown on the differences between the two.

This isn't a complaint at all about DM or BWS either - I shop at both but I usually find myself at BWS because they have more of them colocated with the Woolies I'm likely to shop at and because I'm usually shopping for specific specials (whatever my wife likes/wants to drink) and while DM is almost always cheaper on normal pricing, BWS can sometimes be cheaper on a special.

It's just surprising that after quite a few years (and I assume there's a good reason) that there's no ability to have WR integrated. You'd have to think that if the whole point of WR is to capture buyers data.. you get more and better data if the same 'token' is used across the whole of the Woolies empire.

Now I have visions of star wars empire music playing in some meeting room as darth vader walks into the room to ask his minions about Ozbargainers shopping habits..

    • Dan murphy has its own rewards system.

    • You can also use your reward points to buy stuff at BWS.

    • Fun fact BWS skews female and Dans male.

    • Woolworths staff cards don't work at Dan Murphys either.

Better than nothing but 1 point per $ is a bit crap. Spend $2k to get $10 off.. At least with Woolworths you often get quite large bonus points on regular shops. I often get 240 points per 4 pack of Mother.

    • That's a lot of mothers

    • I have never received that offer!!

Must purchase 2 x 4 packs a week on average.

      • Only when they are on special, but other ones like these current

        BONUS 200 POINTS
Indo Mie Noodles Fried Instant Mi Goreng 5x85g*

        BONUS 300 POINTS
        Dolmio Extra Psce Bolognese 500g*

We get ones like that quite often. Sometimes with the cat food, or washing liquid.

        • +1

I haven't had bonus point specials from Woolworths in a long time. Even the bonus point shelf labels have disappeared. All I get are the multi-week buy limit emails and the regular points. My points don't rise very often and I rarely reach $10 in rewards. Coles, on the other hand, just seem to throw points at me.

Spend $2k to get $10 off.

Giving them your data enables them to create situations where you lose more than $10 because they have manipulated your behavior.

      • Unless you pay cash they can get that data anyway cant they?

        • +1

Woolworths knows what you buy, how much you buy and how often you buy every time you use the rewards card, regardless of the payment method. Most reward programs work this way.

        • @melbourne guy:

Yes i know. My point was about that data being available even without the rewards program unless you pay cash. As in, paying eftpos would provide much the same data anyway.

        • They aren’t doing a very good job of their data matching as I keep getting alcohol offers on my WW receipts and they should notice I never buy any alcohol :)

        • They're not allowed to track spending via credit/debit card numbers. It's an invasion of privacy.

      • They did this a long time ago with petrol discounts.

I watch my shopping and it's bloody amazing how an 'average' shop is very close to $30 now.. until you remember the years of conditioned spending to get you to spend 'at least' $30 before you could get a fuel discount.

I usually end up at $30 without thinking about it much (+/- $2)

  • +2

Meh, only adding back what they took away. Never should have gone away in the first place, they only caused confusion allowing the card to be used at random times during the year.

  • +1

Coles flybuys is much better than woolworths rewards.

    • +1

Seeing as how it is connected to velocity I have to agree

  • Seems to be back because off losses to Kmart?
