Roadside Assistance Deals

My roadside assistance ran out on 30 December 2017 which was part of the car when new.

I was thinking of RACW any deals or discount where I can purchase it cheaper or other services who offer it cheaper or might be as good. I know a few petrol garages offer discount fuel and Ii believe you get discounts on other stuff with RACW.

I am insured with AAMI and I'm sure they offer roadside free with it. Is this right?

  • nope, roadside assistance is not included with AAMI's insurance policies, they have to be purchased additionally.

  • Over in QLD - We went with RACQ Ultimate (on the road 70% <travelling nationally> of the year). Havent used them yet but was better coverage. Not cheap at almost $300, but cheaper than a tow in the outback….

  • Shop around - there's a few providers around (eg Allianz, NRMA, etc). If you're thinking of selling the car in the next 12 months, make sure you check what the refund/pro-rated refund rules are. I felt stupid forfeiting more than half a year of roadside assist as I had to sell my car urgently.

    • That does suck. Couldnt it have tfr with the car to new owner?

      • nope. It's one of the few 'insurances' which don't give you a pro-rated refund (at least compared to the other insurances I had which I ended when I was moving overseas).

      • Don't think you can tranfer to a new owner but you can transfer it to another vehicle owned.

In my case I sold a vehicle prior to buying a new one, so just left the roadside in place as I couldn't cancel and then when I purchase a new vehicle I had the policy updated to the new rego :) This was with RACQ

  • Youi incluced roadside assistance with their comprehensive insurance. I opted for this given how much NRMA was costing me and the awful experiences I'd had with NRMA.

    • I'm still very skeptical about youi after the frauds which happened a couple of years ago…. has the experience being good?

      • +1

I've never needed to claim anything or use their roadside assistance so I can't say either way. They're always very friendly on the phone and have generally had very cheap and comprehensive policies.

        • Fair enough. I have to admit their TV marketing campaign is effective at keeping it front of mind.

        • +2

@jace88: Most insurance places are great until you have to put a claim in. :)
