Have submitted a ticket to ask if they are able to price shipping and laptop separately so laptop pricing falls under $1000 AUD to avoid GST import tax.
Will update when they reply

Someone (apologies, can't find the post) explained the other day that shipping is excluded when comparing to the GST barrier, but once you exceed the barrier, the tax you pay is on both the item and the shipping.
But it is unlikely this laptop will fall below the barrier with the current pricing, as it costs them probably around $20 to ship.
But taxes pay for infrastructure.
Of Harvey Norman?
Regressive taxes just target the poorest. Imports demonstrate that local companies are not only noncompetitive but also incapable of competing. Instead these companies are choosing to attack the consumer than fix their model.
I don't think that's a fair statement. It's not a level playing field when local companies have to charge you 10% to hand over to the government.
That 10 percent is considered with the better warranty and customer support laws found in Australia.
If, even considering this 10% premium and warranty inclusions (price discrepancy is often wider than this anyway) the imported product is a better deal, then Aussie retailers must be doing something seriously wrong.
I am sure if the difference was only 10%, most people would take the local stock but usually the differences are far higher for which there are very few justifications.
@rdhupar: apart from, you know, paying decent wages to their staff, complying with environmental, safety and health policies and those kind of things
I think the better warranty and customer support laws are on top of that 10%, hence adding extra costs to local businesses, thus the even wider price discrepancy required.
That 10% GST just go straight into government coffers to pay for welfare, or whatever they decide to waste on to win votes.
This was 811USD just before Christmas - I wish one of these Chinese retailers would take the lead and drop the total price under $1k. A sale price of $780 USD should do it…
I can't comment on this specific product, but Xiaomi have a say over how low resellers can charge for their products.
Is it touch screen?
Yes.
Thanks. Could you double confirm it? I am about to place or order however the specification seems not mention anything about 'touch screen'? Regards
Looks like I misread. No touchpanel sorry.
I am sure you can still touch the screen. ;)
It's a great laptop!
Price item and postage separately? Ha ha. Keep dreamin'! I wish they released the 13.3 Mi Notebook Air with an 8250 CPU instead of the 7500, so we could have the performance of this, in a unit that's 800 grams lighter.
Does that dedicated 2gb NV gfx card make much of a difference?
Am I correct to say that it still can't run any decent game on it?
From what I've seen you can run most things on Low settings at 1080p reasonably close to 60fps

Same :)
Item is $1095.50, when you checkout shipping (to me at least) is another $34.24 on top of that.
I doubt they would be able to take $100 off the list price but it would be amazing.
I asked Live Chat about dropping the actual price or providing a coupon to reduce it by ~$80usd but nah. Also, Live Chat mentioned they generally declare their goods between $30 and $50 by default unless you contact them.

I picked up the dell Inspiron 15 5000 with the same specs for $959.00 as a part of their boxing day sales.
No response as of yet guys :( Messaged gear best as well and this was their response:
