What actually makes this thing worth $577? I get the cordless convenience aspect, but my $70 vacuum can do everything this can do (whilst being plugged in) and has more power to boot.

They're pretty handy if you want to clean something up quickly. But like most Dyson's they're very loud and they have to have possibly the shittiest barrel emptying mechanisms ever created. Seriously, unless you happen to have dust that doesn't clump (i.e. it contains not a single long hair) you'll enjoy removing chunks of filth out of the barrel with your fingers or some other object. Bought Miele last week, had Dyson's previously, (profanity) that overpriced, noisy, plastic, poorly performing shit.

Maybe you have a defective unit, couldn't be happier with mine so easy, no cord to struggle with and picks up edge to edge, none I've used every did that and no dust or dusty smell in the air like every others because it pickes up all the dust.

Haven't tried but every part can be taken apart and cleaned so if it ever needs it, can be cleaned so it's almost like new, unlike my old one which got blocked in the tube with no way of unblocking it.

I see it lasting a long while hence worth it over the life of the product comparing to buying a crappy one ever few years.

        Just mine thoughts.

By the way got it for $560 delivered from Bing. This price isn't bad but it isn't local stock, would love to have gotten for $400 odd in their previous deal.

        • Possibly it's defective. It's the V6 Absolute and it does smell a bit odd when it runs. Like I said in another comment, I think Dyson make the best cordlessvac. My comments were mostly directed at their non-cordless range, for which Miele is far, far better. Seriously, the floorboards feel like freshly washed dishes after using the Miele, where the Dyson would leave a thin layer of fine dust making it slightly slick.

        Do you have the v8?
I only ask because the v8 compared to other models like the v6 is much much quieter and battery lasts a bit longer.

        • Got a V6 Absolute. FWIW, Dyson probably make the best portable vacuum, my only real issue was the emptying mechanism, but just like all bagless vacs, it's not ideal. Dyson's that run on mains really don't compare to Miele in my opinion. Even the guy at JB said I will probably fill the bag if I'd been using Dyson's previously (he wasn't wrong).

Link the vacuum you are comparing, My experience Dyson v8 picks up more dirt then my $130 bag-less plug-in vacuum from BigW.

I needed a vacuum that was cordless for quick cleanups, it was not till i started using the V8 i found it was removing LOTS!! of fine dirt/dust from my carpet, the centrifugal separation and motorized head on the Dysons is whats doing all the work , only you can give it worth :P

    • Your living space must be small. Try living in a house that either narrow or wide and a combination of both. Like you the cord vacuum could do it but since using my v8 absolute I save up 20 minutes of my time floor cleaning. That nearly 2 to 3 hours of my time that I could be doing something else every week. Times you will never get back as a oz bargainer

The money is worth it. Never going back to corded vacumming ever again!

      • where does that 20mins saving come from? unplugging/plugging in the corded machine?

        • I think maybe untangling the cord when moving through rooms and around furniture

        • +1

@flashi007: 20mins.. that must be one hell of a long cord =D

as convenient as our v6 may be, i'd love to find out how it could save even 5mins when compared to using our dc37c

Yup. And pulling the dyson big ball vacuum. It isn't flexible with moving furniture around. I had to turn off the vacuhm then push the furniture because it was heavy to pull along.

And having to unplug and replug as you mention. At the same time pulling the vacuum into the next room.

Unlike with the v8 dyson I just push the furniture away and vaccum without turning off the dyson.

      • 2 to 3 hours of my time that I could be doing something else every week. Times you will never get back

Dyson gave me back my sex life.

        • Scab you've only had about 5 hours of sleep?

    • I have an apartment, the dyson handheld takes up less space, no hose or cord catching on anything or getting kinked up and I can store it very easily, it clips onto its wall mounted charger so its footprint is the size of a shoe. I get 15mins vacuum time on max power which is enough time to vacuum the carpeted rooms and the hardfloors. I have the V6 which I got for just under $300 on a deal. I probably couldn't justify jumping up to the V8 considering the V6 is meeting my needs, but i'd never go back to a junky vacuum after this.

As for the power claim I doubt it

    I have a v6 then got the v8 but mine r au models the v8 was 600
Iv never used a better vac

These are not Aussie stock.. only 1 year warranty ???

  • +4

You're comparing grey stock price with local

  • Shopmonk = no thanks!

  • So this comes with a non-Australian power plug? i.e. we need to use an adaptor and there is no warranty?

Seems a little risky for me.

  • shows out of stock

  • is anyone can double confirm that Costco is selling for $679.98?
