Ring Spotlight Wired Security Camera (Black) $249.00 @ JB Hi-Fi/Officeworks ($224.10 via Bunnings price beat)

50

Hi guys,

i was just in the market for a security camera for my garage & noticed JB Hi-Fi had the Ring Spotlight on sale for $249.00 which isn't bad considering most places have it for around $329.00. I'm already running the ring video doorbell v1 & am quite happy with it. If you want to shave a bit more off the price you can price beat at Bunnings for $224.10 or Officeworks $236.55 now $249.00.

It's technically a web-camera, not a security camera. It has no means to connect to a permanent recorder, therefore useless when not paired/connected with the phone app.

Ah okay i see what you mean, for the recordings I'm already subscribed to Ring Video recording (Protect) for my doorbell which allows me to add a few more Cameras & store the recordings in the cloud for up to 60 days In which I just download the video files i want to keep, It's a little bit expensive at $15 a month but I think the convenience makes it worth it.

If you pay for the 'premium' plan, all recordings are saved in the cloud. It's not without it's issues, but if you want something simple (and have good upload), these are a good choice.

      • With fast, good & stable NBN - no problem. Uploading 1080p on ADSL2+ - forget it.

Without battery back up it is useless if the power is disconnected/ off.

    • IR will drain your battery in no time. Also, normal security cameras do not come with battery backups, the NVRs do.

    • Is there a product like this which has battery back up? (excuse the ignorance….my partner is dragging his feet and I want one installed)

It looks like they sell a version with the battery built-in as well JB & Bunnings have it for $329.00 I was just watching video on it as well I'll link below:

      • Note that Ring products need the internet to do its thing (notification, cloud recording, live view etc), so even if the doorbell/camera has battery backup, your router won't be able to function without power.

        • Getting a backup power source would solve that (like a UPS for a pc), but then for that extra cost why wouldn't you just go for a product that does everything you need. It's a shame Ring limits their products to internet use only (well not entirely, but they crippleware it unless you pay fees to them).

    Overpriced product.

Agree, if it dropped down to half price around $150, i would think about it.

  • I've just recently discovered the Ring Floodlight Security Camera. Kogan have them for $299… What other (cheaper & better) alternatives are there?

  • Ring would be a good product if they didn't force-feed you an extortion in monthly fees for their products.
    Overpriced for what they are.
