LG's Brand New Washing Machine Bought from a Gumtree Seller - Warranty Registration Issue

We bought this brand new washing machine from a Gumtree seller. I checked it and it was boxed and I opened it at seller's house and I can assure you guys it was brand new. Seller said he won it in some competition I brought it home and tried to register the product on LG's website but they are asking the place it was bought from and the date.

why dont you get in contact with the person you bought it from and ask?

lol….. thats a logical answer for a stupid post!

seriously, do as jason says, and secondly you would think if the manufacturer needs you to register a product that the 2 questions obviously need answering. so no surprise there!

      otherwise don't register it

I asked him and he said he WON it and I mentioned that in my question above.

When he won it did LG state that he would have a full warranty on the product? It might not have any warranty given he did not pay any money for it. This question sounds like the kind of thing you did not need to post on Ozbargain for - use your common sense.

  • Usually (for Retail purchases) there is a Reciept/Cartnote in a Plastic Sleeve on the outside of the Box (so check for that).

In your case the Gumtree seller probably got a Letter or E-mail or something when they won the LG Washer.

There is possibly a question of whether the Gumtree seller sold you just a
LG Washing Machine or a LG Washing Machine with Warranty.

Try and contact the Gumtree Seller and explain you are trying to register the LG Warranty and see if they can let you have any supplementary Paperwork (or a receipt) as you can't input details such as Date and Place of Purchase when there isn't really a Date (or Place) other than that they received the LG Box.

It would probably be a good idea to have something in writing from the Gumtree Seller saying they were selling you the LG and preferably indicating that this included the Transfer of Warranty.

You need something also for Insurance purposes so that it is Insured as part of your Home Contents Cover and again here you don't have a receipt.

You need to pursue this promptly because if the LG developed a fault (or flooded your Laundry) you would want LG Service and your Home Contents Insurance Company might want to know where you bought the LG and ask for a Receipt.

Warranty is always from date of purchase, yet you didn't purchase new.

Does it have a manufacture date on the unit? Theoretically you should at least be able to argue for 2 years from that date if you ever had an issue.

He wouldn't be covered, he bought it from a private seller.

And manufacturer's warranties are voluntary and almost always not transferable.
