Craftright Drill Bit Set 11 Pieces (Masonry, Wood, HSS) each $4.95 at Bunnings

130

Hi All, I am doing a DIY auto gate installation at home and need of drill bits. Was at my local Bunnings (Scoresby, VIC) and found craftright drill bits on specials each $4.95 and three different types (Masonry, Wood, HSS). Given I am new using these tools wanted to give a try and fulfilled my needs. I was not able to see this product in bunnings website, but the tool's guy said its nation wide. There was about 5 of them left.

Unsure if this brand is a decent one, anyways for the price I am not expecting too much out of it.

Are the masonry ones terrible? The ones that I bought a while ago were.

They're probably all terrible, Craftright are the cheapest made tools you can get. Probably OK for drilling through small amounts of wood. The masonry ones wouldn't be worth using at all.

    • they are tungsten tipped like other masonary drill bits, with the tungsten being brazed, like most masonary drill bits, so need to be careful to not overheat or the brazing melts, like most other drill bits.

I've used them and they are OK, but if you are doing a lot of masonary work, get a rotary hammer drill, much faster and even cheap drill bits last a long time and no issues with over heating as it's a different physical action.

      • I have been using a hammer drill. Shredded the bits in seconds.

    • I bought a set of Craftright masonry bits.

      Worst $15 I’ve ever spent.

When it comes to masonry you’ve got to get quality bits. It’s worth investing.

I've made myself a rule after so many disappointments: don't buy craftright. don't care how cheap it is.

After buying a set of Craftrights, I did the right thing and bought a set of Suttons. More expensive, but they don't fail or snap as easily as the Craftrights.

      This guy drills.

    • Bought a set of suttons about 6 mths ago… they went blunt very quickly. Unless it was a bad batch they may have taken the cheap route also? I had used them before and they were fine. Another brand I now avoid!

found craftright drill bits on specials each $4.95

You'll understand why after you use them.

    • As another punter who has just received a drill for Christmas and doesn't want to buy the cheapest crappiest components, what set might you recommend instead? Cheers in advance :)

      • Sutton are some of the best. Not sure what happened with the other commenter… They are quality bits. (former power tool reviewer and woodworker) 😊

A guy I work with used to be a cabinet maker by trade and he says everyone in his circle held Sutton in the highest regard. I'm just waiting for my cheap bits to all break or go blunt before I replace them with a full set of metric Sutton bits. Apparently they last many times longer and are worth it.
