WTB 2x New/Demo Suzuki Swift. I Would Prefer Navigator Series in WA

I've started a new thread on advice that the Daewoo… I mean Holden Spark probably isn't worth going near. Are there any sales people out there in WA Ozbargainland that can help me with a good deal on 2x New/Demo Suzuki Swift. I'd prefer navigator series, and preferably in 2 different colours so my old eyes can tell them apart. I don't work for Westpac so these budget ended cars are my preference.

I don't work for the brand any more and honestly I don't have any ties to the old dealership (used to, but the place is imploding 😂)

Work out if you want a 2017 or 2018.

Personally I'd recommend a brand new 2018 plated car. There's not a lot of discounting on these for demo models, looking at like $500.

Go test drive, make sure you're happy with the car, then go shopping :) but only once you're committed and ready to sign on the line!
Once you're happy, call a few dealers, ask for quotes. My best advice is not to play them off against each other. Get the cheapest quote and buy!

  • any reason for getting the Swift?

I'd love to like it, but the current model is so far off the pace compared to a Mazda 3/Polo

It's funny you mention the Polo as it would really fit in well. We have street parking out the front of the house and the neighbours already have 3 of these, all the same colour too, lined up out the front of their place. I didn't really want to add another couple to it. The Mazda 3 is a little too expensive, coming in closer to $20k each.

      • for some reason I forgot the Accent- that would be my pick, and its also closer to Corolla size

        • The Jazz and the Accent were in the equation for a little while. I spotted these two Accents:

          https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Hyundai-Accent-20…
          https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Hyundai-Accent-20…

Both are at the same dealership, which is a comical one… basically a small car yard run out of a shipping container in Clarkson. I'm hoping it's a small temporary affair whilst they build an actual respectable yard. I don't mind saving a bit and getting them with hail damage. 7 year warranty means they'll be kept for the kids to use as their first cars (4 kids, so they'll probably be handed down from one to the next).

The Jazz was tempting for its rear passenger room and the way the seats all fold, but I have a larger 7 seat that does the same and won't really be using these cars myself so difficult to judge if it would come in useful. Also the Jazz is around the $16k driveaway mark.

As for the Polo they had a good deal on those that may be continued with the low interest finance. Not financing the full purchase price on either of these though so I'd have to weight up how it works out… I guess financing low interest could get me ahead on a mortgage and make up about 2% per annum saving per year over 4 years, so perhaps around $1000-$1400 saved off the purchase price. This bring the Polo in under $15k effectively.

Another thread from someone who hasn't done their homework, asking random strangers for their opinions……

Whatever happened before the internet? before forums? before getting votes on what you should buy from people you don't know?

Good luck OP with your quest. Perhaps, if you truly want opinions that carry any weight, you should give some information as to what you want your cars to do for you. Otherwise, you might as well roll some dice and pick a car that is available in a colour that complements your tie.

Actually, was just after a couple of cheap and reliable cars, and after shopping around the second hand market I thought it'd be better to go brand new in the lower price range. The car isn't for me or my wife to use, so it just needs to be something that gets from A to B (hence the initial idea of the Spark as one of the cheapest cars on the market).

As for asking on here, it seemed as good a place as any. I recalled there was someone on here that used to work in the yards (spackbace) and had given some decent advice to people in the past. If you don't value the opinions of the public on here I respect that, but you don't need to push those views onto me.

There has actually been some homework done and the swift was on the list, but for the sake of $2,000 I was ready to dismiss it. Everything always leads back to the usual… you can't go wrong with a Toyota, but when buying 2 cars at the same time this can increase the overall spend by up to $10k.

        ok, so far we have….

they are not not for you or wife
they are to go from A to B

maybe you could give us just a LITTLE bit more?

how far is it from A to B?
what sort of roads? condition? hills? speed limits? congestion?
        who is driving?
        young/old?
        are they experienced?
        is comfort important?
        or recent tech?
        auto/man?
do they need to carry anything?
        kids?
        fuel economy important?
        resale important?
        warranty important?
        how many k's a year?
how long looking to keep them?
        budget?
        safety?

just for starters…….if you can be bothered

if you just wanted spackbace's input, just PM him

        • I did mention at the top I was going for the Spark to start with and changed to the Swift. But in the interest of getting all facts and opinions together here goes:

how far is it from A to B? Daily run under 10km and a second daily run of approx 25kms
what sort of roads? condition? hills? speed limits? congestion? Non-peak hour traffic
          who is driving? employees
          young/old? 21-30yo
          are they experienced? yes
is comfort important? moderately… the alternative was to purchase second hand vehicles of the ~$4k range
or recent tech? Android auto / nav would be nice
          auto/man? doesn't matter
do they need to carry anything? a surfboard occasionally
kids? 4 kids often travelling in the vehicles
fuel economy important? preferably under 6/100 (hence small cars)
resale important? not really, cars will likely be kept and handed on to kids
warranty important? nowhere near as important as knowing I've maintained them well. But would be nice
          how many k's a year? approx 10-15k
how long looking to keep them? 3-7 years… or more
          budget? $13-15k driveaway each
safety? much safer than the $4k second hand alternative

        • @lansalot:
