I’m wanting to buy a laptop from the US and use some shipping service to have it delivered to Aus.
Can anyone who has experience doing this recommend the best place to use and a rough idea on costs?

Shopmate is the auspost one, starts at $30 I think
PayPal has one too, I forget it's name.

Avoid shopmate at all costs.
It’s sold by aus post but run by Singapore post.They charge to repackage if it needs repackaging…. yet they repackage everything regardless.
They have no care for items (had 3 items damaged…now I won’t touch them again)
The prices they charge are no better than others around.

Open an account with MyUS using either the Visa or Mastercard promo. This will give you 2 year free Premium Membership (normally USD7 pm) and 20%-25% off their normal shipping cost.
A 3kg package, which should cover a laptop would cost around AUD60.00, By comparison USPS would cost around AUD100

PriceUSA - good if you just need one item, they'll sort it out, just send them through a link and the details plus
Shipito - serious sketchy vibes from the website, but they've been reliable and they take photos of the incoming packages - $50/US/year for access to the tax free Oregon warehouse
Comgateway - a little more expensive as the only shipping option appears to be DHL, but 5 days from US to my parcel locker is just frickin awesome. Their repacking service is better than Shipito.
My recommendation: try PriceUSA, if you need more than that use comgateway. Stay the hell away from Shopmate unless you have a discount code.

I use MyUS for package forwarding when I buy from sellers who don't ship to Aus. They seem pretty flexible and the costs were amongst the cheapest when I signed up with them 12 months ago.
