[Possible scam] Weber Q2200 LPG or NG Black/Red/Titanium $276 @ Barbeque World + Free Delivery

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Hi guys,
I've been looking for a Weber BBQ for a while and I found this site with really competitive prices. It usually goes for $420 (460 for the NG model).
Marked discounted price is $306, plus a $15 discount when you signup, and a 5% discount if you bank transfer, briging the total down to $276.

Too good to be true?
On the site there is no shop address and no phone number, just an Ashbury NSW location.

Anyone had any experience with these guys?

wow is this site legit? They sell some of the higher grade webers really cheap…

    • I know, that was my concern.
I ordered one Q2200, but I haven't paid yet as they said you have 12h to transfer the money

      • Bank transfers won’t be processed until Tuesday.

    • I ordered a weber q 2200 from this lot offering to pay by CC. Then got an email from them to say that due to "Logistical reasons" all orders made between 24th and 26th December were being refunded. The money had not been taken from my CC account. All subsequent emails to these people remain unanswered. I think I was lucky!

    • They scammed me out of $292 dollars.

We I sent them a copy of the comments on this website they removed their store from the internet and also was able to remove all details of their internet store from Google!

I've also reported them to Scam Watch which is an Australian Gov Website that Commonwealth Bank provided the contact details for as follows:

      scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam

When I sent Barbequeworld a screenshot of my comments on this forum they some how got my comments removed from this blog!!!!!!

Thought there was a scam not too long ago…

  • +3

Bank transfer is a def sign a scam. No real way to get your money back unlike credit card /paypal

    • +6

Yep, that scared me. Giving that I live not to far from Ashbury, I wrote them if I can pick up and pay on delivery

    • Worth paying the extra for security.

  • +2

scam site, dont bother, there was a similar one selling webers few years ago

  • +1

Has all the same characteristics of previous BBQ scams.

  • +1

Not likely to have an account with Weber for too long at these prices!

Baby Q is not a good deal also .. except it looks dodgy per comments above.

Any retailers selling BBQs have a price beat?

  • +1

Looks dodgy. Never pay by bank transfer!!!

  • Someone try a few orders with "random person generator" see if they work

  • +1

Thanks guys, I noticed also that before ordering there were 3 available, and after order was still giving me the same quantity.
I'll update the title with [Possible scam].

  • +2

wouldnt buy anything online without CC/Paypal

  • +1

    Use for price beat

  • Scam site and safety neg.

  • +1

Seems dodgy as, no information on how to do a return on the returns policy and the contact us page has a page not found. If they are legit, there is a white pages listing for them, I wonder if their site has been hacked?

if it smells like sh*t it probably is

Scam site like the other previous bbq scam sites.
    Stay clear of barbequeworld

  • +2

They use the same testimonials copy pasted from that previous scam BBQ deal

"Although we had a few problems with the order the support guys kept my order until bank cleared the payment and I finally got a very decent priced grill. Many thanks Bob”
    Andrew"

  • Never pay by bank transfer. Credit card only if you want to see your money again.

A fool and their money are soon parted.
This scam has got whiskers on it. If you want to give some money away, give it to a charity not these low lifes.

  • In their “About us”, they plagiarised Barbeques Galore’s spiel: “Barbeques Galore has been supplying Australians with high-quality barbeques and expert advice since 1977“, and “Barbeques are our passion – some may say obsession. It’s no wonder we proudly stock the widest range of barbeque products - including LPG, natural gas, charcoal and electric – featuring quality brands such as …”

I ordered a BBQ on 31 December and transferred the money by bank transfer on the same day and sent proof of transfer.

Commonwealth Bank has confirmed they have the money.

No matter how many emails to their sales email address there is no response.

Does anyone know who I should report the scam to? You would think some government agency could shut them down.

Can we join together to shut these people down at least a little while until they start up again.

    • I too have been scammed by this "company". I ordered the Weber Q2200 on Tuesday 02.01.2018 with the purchase price being way too good to refuse and transferred the money straight away. If it sounds too good to be true, chances are it's too good to be true. I'm so mad at myself for falling for this scam. I've now lost my family $291 and that is a lot of money in our eyes. I just wanted to buy my husband the Weber he's always wanted.

After reading this forum/thread I did a search on the business name and found that it was only registered in Dec 2017 whereas the website says they've been trading since 2005.

I have contacted my bank (NAB) and submitted a complaint with Police/ACORN.

Not much more I can do cry.

      • Is there anything we can all do collectively to try and get our money back ?

        • I don't know what else to do. I've posted it on Facebook, I filled out a scam watch online form, I reported it to the police/ACORN and to my Bank. This is so sad for everyone who has been scammed. Working in a law firm, I have seen many a scam email in my time some of which are soooo convincing, but this website really got me. I didn't even think twice about it being legit or not. I truly thought it was legit.

        • @aquaangel81: Their bank is in Collins Street Melbourne a Westpac account. I bank with Westpac and have lodged a complaint about them don't think it will help much but good to make them aware. So sad we have all been caught out.

    • report to scam watch watch is ACCC. The more the better.

    • Hi Leslie,

same thing happened to me, I have logged a complaint with department of fair trading.

      Regards,
      Grace

  • I think I've been scammed as well, I paid $565 by direct deposit and I have sent 3 emails of which nobody has responded. I placed another order without paying and received an email stating 'awaiting payment'. I will contact my bank tomorrow and dept of fair trading.

    • oh no that's not good at all. I really wish we had seen this forum before ordering the "BBQ's" :-((

  • I too was caught by this last Wednesday and brought a weber bbq for $293. I have also sent several messages and emails to no avail so no doubt I have lost my money as well. I have this morning reported it to acorn but doubt I will be getting my money back either.

  • I too was caught out. Ordered two and paid via bank transfer.

I've lodged a complaint with the ecommerce host…
    https://www.prestashop.com/en/abuse

    please do the same.

    • I did the same yesterday but didn't hear back from them

  • Hi all,
I have been scammed by this as well. I have reported it to scam watch. I suggest you all go on that web site scam watch, and report it. This is part of the ACCC and they will put it on their site which is on twitter. They will then take action, so the more that report it to ACCC the quicker they will act on it. My worry is they have my ID the pricks.

  • Unfortunately there is no way to stop / warn naive people who will continue to pay via bank transfer to Spain before even googling the company name :(

    • seriously, a little more courtesy smashed. ACCC can do something .

      • Courtesy? I want to be courteous.
Please read what I said. I literally said that unfortunately there is no way to warn people who will see it and pay.

        • ok Smashed, I just read it that when you said naive people it was a put down to them. all good.

    It's an indian restaurant:

    http://www.barbequenation.com

Possibly nothing to do with the scammers - they could have taken this business's ABN to register the domain, because it had "barbeque" in the business name. Not sure

  • I got scammed too.. once for $1277 and again for $1213 after they said that "Due to some logistics problems we had during 24-26 December we are forced to refund all orders. If you haven't received your refund in the next 48 hours you can speed up the process by filling a refund request with your bank. We apologize for the situation and delay"

Ive reported to scamwatch and to ACORN (Reference Number (ARN) ARN-JP6F-Y4RJ) as well as to Westpac. Both of my bank deposits were into Westpac accounts.

When I phoned Westpac they started a process which might possibly result in return of the funds but im not very hopeful.

  • Why is this website not being shutdown? I don't understand how after every one of us who have reported them, that it is still operating! I have not heard a single word from my bank or ACORN or the Police or anyone else that I reported the scam to and it is so frustrating as every day more and more people are being scammed by "barbeque world".

  • Hi Everyone, I to am also victim to this barbeque scam. Purchased on 5 January and paid via bank transfer the same day any yet my order still says 'awaiting payment' I have tried to contact them a number of times with no response. After reading this thread I have also lodged a dispute with my bank, reported to Scamwatch, ACORN and Prestashop. Like others have said, I am very aware of emails scams no matter how convincing; however this one caught me easily as the item I wanted was suddenly out of stock at usual suppliers so when I saw it I jumped on it (especially as it was discounted) = NEVER AGAIN! Has anybody heard anything as the website is still clearly operating? I would have thought so many disputes submitted in relation to the associated bank account would result in it being shutdown and money returned :S

My deposit was into an ANZ Account so it is more disturbing tat others have paid into accounts at other banks i.e. Westpac.

  • Hey gang, I also fell for this scam :( I’ve also reported this to ACCC and my bank (who said the payment was made to an ANZ account). I feel so silly!! Anyway hopefully these people get what they deserve!!

  • I have also reported the domain to the industry regulatory body for .au domains (auDA) requesting that it be suspended / shutdown to try and limit how many others get scammed (as the website appears to still be operating despite our numerous reports to various reporting authorities). Does anyone have an update?

  • There are no contact details. BBQ scams are the current rage.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-19/fake-trader-website-sc…

  • My bank NAB sent a letter to me to say they'd sent a letter to the scammer's bank WESTPAC to ask if they could ask their client to return the money to me - yeah right as if that's gunna happen!! Grrrr I'm so angry that nothing has been done about this website yet and I feel so silly for falling for it.

  • I have also fell victim to this scam. Even though my gut was telling me it didn't smell right, I was too excited to get such a great deal. I should have known that $588 for a Weber Family Q Premium was too good to be true.

I have reported it to Fair Trading and to ACORN as others have directed.

When I contacted the bank they said that there is no proof that we transferred the money to the bank account for the purposes of purchasing a BBQ. Even though the transaction ID is in the bank transfer description it is meaningless to the bank. The bank representative suggested that the scammers know this and this is why they ask for the transaction ID to be included in the bank transfer as it gives the impression of legitimacy. If we had simply included "<Transaction ID> - Weber Family Q" then maybe the bank would help us. Or just paid with a credit card…

The bank representative also stated that they cannot force the receiving bank to reverse the transaction. The receiving bank must gain consent from the account holder in order to reverse the transaction. There is a $50 fee for requesting this and there is no guarantee given.

    Lessons:
    1. When using Bank Transfer - always include a reason for the transfer as well as the identifier
    2. If you doubt the seller, its much safer to use Credit Card.
    3. If the deal is too good to be true, it usually is.

I'm just glad I haven't been taken for more $$$ as others seem to have been

  • Their website account has been suspended.

  • I got an email today from ACORN:

    UNCLASSIFIED
Thank you for the report you have recently submitted through the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network – ACORN.

In order to further process your report, please clarify the details of the bank account you transferred funds to.

Please also provide a screenshot of the specific transaction from your account transaction history.

Please inform us as soon as possible in order to permit processing of your file.

We look forward to hearing from you and being of assistance.

    Regards
ACORN Management Unit - Victoria Police

    • Good luck mate, I hope you can get your money back.

      • Thank you, ill keep you guys posted

  • My bank has investigated my claim and I received a letter from NAB yesterday to say they cannot give me the money back as the scammers refused to give the money back to them - end of story!! I'm so disappointed with myself for falling for such a scam. Even though I knew my chances were slim, I still held onto a tiny bit of hope that I would get the money back in the end but nope, it's gone for good now.
