Best Standing Fan for under $80?

Hi everyone,

My room currently in Adelaide doesn't have an AC so the summer heat is really killing me. There's not really any ventilation in my room and the window only half opens so I was wondering what was the best standing fan for my budget ($80) that would be strong enough to combat the scorching heat. I bought a Target fan for about $18 hoping not to spend a ton but it really is subpar (the wind strength is barely anything and the stand's already breaking down after a month). So I've upped the budget in hopes of finding a quality fan that could last me a long time. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated, help a sista out!

  • Keep in mind you can get a crapy portable aircon for not much more

    • Don't leave us hanging in suspense, do tell.

    Heavy duty second hand? https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/pooraka/air-conditioning-hea…

Or an older one that weighs a tonne and has huge powerful unbreakable motors ! https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/port-adelaide/other-applianc…

just grab a few more kmart/bunnings $12 pedestal fans and put them all at 4 corners of your room

    or spend 200 on vornado

If you have access to Costco try their fans. I saw a 2 pack (a big and small) for $100. Included a wireless remote. Great value IMO. They also have vornadoes, dysons and other standing fans.

  • I would recommend looking at some of the bigger Kambrook ones. We have a couple of them that move a lot of air, even on low speeds. We don’t use our air con much we just turn one of these between the open window and the bed and we can sleep pretty comfortably.

  • KMart have a 40cm free standing that just about blows you out of the room when set on 1(low)
they have 2 types, a tripod type or the one i grabbed which has a weighted base.
    $45 each

  • Renter or owner? As a west european who struggles with heat, also in adelaide, i feel your pain. There are some diy things you can to to minimise radiant heat into the room, like block out blinds, shade cloth outside, al-foil.. Apart from that, i'd suggest a 5 blade fan. I feel like they move more air - that could be a perception thing, but it works for me. I have one of these - https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Blankets-Heaters-and-Fans/Fans/FA… - a few cons imo, and pricey, but it's been good for me, and importantly, it's reasonably quiet, especially on lower setting. Had it for 5 years now, still going strong, so worth the investment i think. I'd avoid the portable air con tbh, not worth it for so many reasons.
