Faulty iPhone6 on arrival from eBay reputable seller.

Boy was excited to get an iPhone 6 as Xmas present.
Bought a factory unlocked phone on eBay from a reputable seller.
After set up, noticed phone might go slow/sluggish when sending photos, the speaker is defective and sounds funny (cracking unrecognisable ringtones) when rung. no touch sensor was mentioned on the ad.
Contacted seller who offered $50 refund for the $400 phone (64Gb), and ask if I can find local shop to fix.

What would you do?

definitely this. You shouldn't have any trouble trying to return it.
Don't accept the refund because 1) It will likely cost more than $50 and 2) You get cheap generic parts installed
I'm guessing by the sounds of this its a refurbished phone.
You can get a brand new one for $404.10 at Target eBay here using the "PUNCH" 10% off code. You'll have to get it unlocked (free) from Telstra by contacting them through online chat.

      • Thank you guys. Bought @target.

  • Did you ay via PayPal?

    • yes.

      • I would go straight to Payoal is seller is only offering you a fix that may or may not work out in the long run

I would be seeking a refund.
It'll definitely cost more than $50 to fix whatever the problem is!

If you just take the $50 refund, chances are, it'll just end up being a $350 paperweight!

    • lost my confidence with sellers.
for the peace of mind, rather pay and play safe than to have a heart broken kid with a broken new phone.

  • Can you please name this store so i can avoid them?

Ask for refund by opening up a eBay return which you can ask ebay to step in if they refuse.

maybe just me, do not have much luck buying iPhone from eBay,
first one here. no communication. did not post at all and got a full refund when request, cannot locate seller items now.
second one here posted as brand new, never used before. now updated as refurbished (after purchase). Photo of post before and after.

  • thanks guys. first time to return things on eBay, glad you help to make up my mind,

  • Try not to buy products with 'no Touch ID' as it means that these phones have been repaired from non-genuine Apple parts and will likely have quirks in them.

    • "Seller Notes: “Never used. In Excellent Condition…" and the phone looks spotless on the casing.
      Is it a repaired phone?

      • +1

Everything on the phone can be repaired except Touch ID due to something about each Touch ID module only working to the specific phone.

Judging by the seller and them updating it to refurbished, it is definitely a repaired phone and the parts used are likely non-genuine. The phone is much more likely to have issues later on than an original one from Apple. Return the phone and ask for a refund. After that, get a phone from an Australian seller without a dodgy 'china-fake-esque' listing.

Edit: Also 95% positive feedback is not a 'reputable seller'. Only go for 98%+ at the bare minimum. Look at the hundreds of negative feedback: https://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&…

Edit 2: I also looked at the price of the phone and you can get the same phone in a better condition from australian sellers so i don't know why you bought the phone from such a listing.

        • Thank you for pointing out. Feel like an idiot.
Remember I did search few times carefully with eBay search engine before buying. It was the lowest price+postage at the time. Estimated time to arrive was fast (cause my boy was eager and asked to check letterbox daily cause the first order did not come). Now I can see the Aussie seller.

Find it interesting that my search result on eBay is inconsistent that only selective results come up sometimes (thought I got the cheapest and best) Then there are lower and better results on the bottom “other buyers also view these items” when I was about to buy the item. Is it just me?

          What is better -
          1. Telstra prepaid iPhone 6 32Gb @ target $40x
          2. eBay iPhone 6 64Gb here
          Or other suggestion.

Kid first phone _ so budget under $450.

I love the effort you put into making your kid happy. You should be very proud of that and I can ensure that the whole ordeal is very worth it.

It's funny how adding $20 can get you something infinitely better. (brand new + free accessories)

I would get the ebay listing. Notice how the seller this time has 99.6% positive feedback rating as opposed to 95%? You must be very careful with ebay listings as some dodgy sellers can manipulate the search so that they come out on top.

If you don't mind second hand, you can also get a iPhone 6s plus 64gb at $400-450. (With the recent sale, I got one at $397 :D in excellent condition - but took a while)

Edit: The telstra one seems fine too, actually.

        • @shot: seller has up the refund to 50% and keep the phone, what do you think? $200 iPhone 6 with faulty speaker.

        • @eatwell365: Happy ending, settled with eBay seller.
