Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver $79 Delivered @ Wireless 1 eBay

140

Probably clearing the line (ala the Cloud II), but these have been floating around for $89 (Amazon AU Boxing Day, again Wireless1) to $95 (PC Case Gear/Scorptec pickup) as a deal, normally priced at $120-$150.

PC Gamer's Headset of the Year, as it balances sound quality with budget by ditching the USB sound card typically seen in these headsets. The audio quality is well established to be superior to the Cloud II/Cloud Alpha, but if you're not sure on your existing audio equipment's HRTF support for your (likely FPS) games, stick with the Cloud II's USB sound card if you can find it.

For everyone else, enjoy!

  • good for ps4?

    • Yup! It uses a 4-pin 3.5 mm stereo plug, but also has a splitter for any speaker/mic configurations you might use.

Nice find, personally looking for some open back headphones

  • Can you lift up the mic boom to mute?

    • No, but if you use it with the splitter, that has a mute button. Additionally, the mic is removable.

  • This or the Core Pro for $52 at Umart?

    • 100% this. Easier to adjust and superior audio quality.

I'm guessing UMart would be throwing on $10+ for delivery, too. Just looked: $14.

Thanks mate. Would be picking up but I tend to agree! Will purchase. Thanks OP.

        • Yeah this is like grabbing a $150+ headset, it's a great deal. Enjoy! :)

        • @jasswolf:

Hi jasswolf, hows the sound quality on these for music? Not really much of a gamer but looking for something with good sound quality.

        • +1

@montorola: these have a really wide sound stage compared to pretty much every other gaming headset in this category, but as a gaming headset they are still slightly tuned to better enhance gaming-related applications (tweaks to the base, some altering of the mid-range so speech is clearer).

If this is mostly for your PC, and you're still going to play online games and need the mic, this is incredible value for money.

If you're barely going to make use of the mic, there might be an argument for you getting a cheap clip-on or some other solution and grabbing a more dedicated set of headphones, but it's an extremely weak case given the build quality (50mm drivers, 30 ohm impedance and 12Hz–28,000 Hz range).

          @jasswolf:

Thanks for the indepth review! Sold!

Will be using it for Skype, so definitely need a mic!

I've got the Razer Kraken Pro V2's cans and I also own the gears of war edition of the revolvers. The sound between the two is worlds apart. Soundstage of the Revolver is superior on every level and I've been happy using them on my Xbox one, PS4 & PC. Only time the Razer's see use is when I've got guests gaming with me. These gaming cans are what I really think gaming cans should be.

Edit: Orin you should buy these if you're reading this. Haha.

  • this or Cloud II?

    • At the same price? Still depends on your use case, but there's a minor argument for better surround emulation and HRTF on the Cloud II with its USB solution. Every other scenario probably puts the Revolver ahead.

Just keep in mind that the metal across the top can cause a bit of noise when struck and during heavy movement, so it's not a fantastic mobile solution.

But right now, the Cloud II is $100 at best, so this is a buy IMO.

  • Have you heard the Cloud Alpha OP?

This review says the Revolver is a bit more bass heavy - https://medium.com/@Xander51/headphone-showdown-hyperx-cloud…

    • Yes, I've heard of the Alpha. The Revolver is intended as the premium headset and will be superseded by the Revolver S, while the Alpha is the next iteration of the Cloud II.

It's close on quality, but at $105 on sale versus $71 here and both being 4-pin 3.5mm, it's no contest. Look around at the reviews for the Alpha and the Revolver, and you'll notice the key issue with the Revolver is the price (US$120+). That doesn't apply here.

Thanks - had already ordered the Alpha. I was close to ordering the Revolver from this post (and resell the one I didn’t like) but read that the Revolver’s steel band (if touched) can cause some ringing in the ears, and there is a bit of sound leakage - plus the suspension types never seem to be a snug fit for me. Hopefully the Cloud Alpha will be good for me.

  • 125.00 now and the cloud 11 129.00 so which now? :)
