Anyone bought a new BMW / AUDI / LEXUS lately?

I'm looking to get a new car from either of them, price range between $60-$80k. However I'm terrible at bargaining, so I'm just wondering how much I can knock off the advertised price on their website (RRP)?

Someone on this site purchased one as an investment so no need to negotiate. Just purchase, enjoy and sleep easy knowing that your investment is working for you.

Nah he bought a Mercedes. Suggest that OP does the same and forget about these other brands.

      This is still funny?

I guess this joke will never die down on OZbargain.

  • You should be able to get $20k off easily.

Whatever you save put it in the car maintenance jar

Agreed - servicing on these cars will be a rip off

Even Lexus? They don't seem to fall apart like Germans.

        • Lexus servicing is pretty decent, it is done at Toyota as well and the price is capped (Depending on when you bought the vehicle etc) for the first 3 years (can negotiate).
Source - Extended family bought a GSF (higher bargaining power than standard IS models etc due to the high value of the vehicle and higher margin product).

          Enjoy the depreciation ! haha

    • If op can afford a brand new luxury vehicle, then op can afford the upkeep.

Buy a Rolls Royce don’t cheapen out.

Don't do it! It's not the ozbargain way.

Ex-demo with 1000-5000km could easy be discounted by $10-20k comparing to brand, brand new one.

    • Yea searching for them.. can't find the ones I want yet.

  • Find dealers that belong to different owner groups. Pit them against each other. Lead with a price of a ex-demo as base and take it from there.

Focus on finding th right car for you first, then focus on pricing second. Understand that you will not get a bargain from any of those brands - you will just get a good car that will weigh down your wallet for the next five years with higher insurance and maintenance costs than you could possibly imagine.

Ozbargain would always advise second hand or at least a demonstrator model to reduce your upfront costs. Don’t trade in with these dealers - sell privately if you can, dealers will try to screw you over as much as possible, making something joyful like buying a car into a horrible experience.

    • a good car that will weigh down your wallet for the next five years with higher insurance and maintenance costs than you could possibly imagine.

Not necessarily. Our neighbour purchased a new vehicle this year. Same brand and similar catagory to ours. It costs us twice as much to service our vehicle compared to theirs. We pay more than $1k for insurance and can only assume that they pay less than that.

Maybe you just suck at negotiating?

Or perhaps your neighbour has a novated lease, car package with company or works for a company that offers cheaper on-road costs.

        • None of those things.

        • @whooah1979:

Well it has to be something. His dealer was probably more generous

    • Yea I've got a particular model in mind for each of them, will go for a test drive soon. Looking around for a demo car too but can't find what I want yet. Will keep trying thanks!

  • BMW / AUDI / LEXUS lately?

What catagory are you looking at? Small, medium, SUV or 4wd?

    • Medium / SUV, like others suggested, will go for a test drive first sometime soon to decide.

Buy a new top of the line camry. Looks dope as fk

I never thought I'd read that on here

I never thought I'd read that on here

Unlike some of the yuppies on here, I wouldn't touch a european car with a 6ft pole. Lexus and Toyota for me.

        • Excuse me for going off topic a bit here, but I have to mention, weren't you also the guy who wouldn't touch swear words with a 6ft pole??

          @Halsmich:

weren't you also the guy who wouldn't touch swear words with a 6ft pole??

I have a problem with 12 year olds swearing off their heads. I don't remember saying anything about a 6ft pole.

What does that have to do with cars?

        • @smuggler: It doesn't, I just thought it was a bit amusing. Do agree with the Camry though if we're going back on topic.

    • I'm actually considering this too…! :)

  • BMW / Audi / Lexus have very different dash / layouts and handle and ride very different.
I would say go for a test drive to find out the one you like and the one you dont.

    • Yup will definitely go for a test drive first!

  • Alot of corporations/banks/financial services have corporate plans that gives you extra warranty and free servicing etc. Probably worthwhile.

One of my Good Friend just bought one Aldi A4, a few thousand kms 2017 model, A$38k, market might be A$52k, I do remember eofy Aldi do have some up to 40% off, so, it's up to you to talk the prize up or down, if you want extra feature to show around, then you need to paid much higher.

Mine didnt fit in the shopping trolley so I missed out

  • I was told to aim for 8%, but they will get you at option packs, so do your homework, know what's available and what do you want. As with most premium cars the upgrades are packages and some options overlap, so you need to know what's what before you negotiate, otherwise they will sell you things work best for them.

Also think about/research on do you really need paint protection, wheel/tyre insurance, etc. Don't let them talk you into buying things using the money you just saved.

    • Thanks! Will do!

  • Narrow down your car and options.

As long as its not a factory order its quite easy to get 10-20% off especially now since its still last years stock.
One thing about euros, no sunroof makes it much harder to sell later, and 2017 built/complied or 2017 built 2018 complied is still 2017 in terms of euro cars especially.

Not sure about Lexus but for MB they can stock check any dealers stock so when you start doing the call around unless its a normal model dealers start to pickup you're shopping around and some dealers will give you a shitty price knowing they own the stock and another dealer is trying to take it, because they can hold the stock from other dealers.

Also like others said go for ex demo if you wanna save more, and latest rollouts of new models aren't usually discounted.

  • So you have no idea of what model you want, so long as it has the badge.
