  • Any reviews for this? Very keen - especially with my Amex cashback.

I bought and returned the 65" inch version of this TV.

    My quick review:

    • Falsely advertises Android TV when it is actually running Android 4.4.4
    • Does not have optical output (at least not on the 65" model)
    • suffers from 'vertical blinds' backlight bleeding
    • Returned it for having 100-200 dead pixels
    • Works great as a basic TV
    • Air mouse worked fine. Remote/Keyboard more responsive then the 2015/2016 models
    • Thanks for the feedback on the 65" version, did you try update it?

      • Yes. There are no updates available.

I am also pretty confident that the 49" does not have Android TV on it. Only the products listed on the Android TV webpage do.

        https://www.android.com/intl/en_au/tv/

        • Ok maybe I'd better just mark it smart

        • @TRENT86:

Yep. For someone who should have known better I got sucked into the fact the box has the android tv logo/trademark on it as well as the sales guys assuring it had Version 6 installed so I didn’t investigate further.

I also spoke to 3 seperate people within HN that they shouldn’t be selling the TV while the misleading labels are on the box and marketing material but of course to no avail.

        • @Olokun: Yeah maybe I will contact Akai if I can

I bought this from Harvey Norman today (the 49" UHD AKAI). I'm going to return it if I can tomorrow because I'm really disappointed and frustrated that I can't enjoy 4k smoothness.

    Issues:
    - Using Youtube app from smart TV doesn't even give the option to play 4k youtube videos. The max is 1080p. The exact same video on my laptop has the option of 4k.
    - Tried using HDMI from laptop to check the screen was actually 4k but got horrible lag in videos.
    - Youtube crashes if you try to run it via the inbuilt browser app.
    - Comes with no cables. Only power.

    Good stuff:
    - Remote is great and the inbuilt mouse works great.

Maybe I'm missing something? I should be able to watch 4k content by simply plugging the screen in and use wifi, and not need to connect it to a chromecast Ultra/laptop (macbook pro retina 2014). It is a 'smart tv' after all. I have NBN ~75 download speeds so not net related.

    Cheers

Just because a TV has a 4K panel, doesn't mean it has the processing ability to decode 4K HEVC/VP9 videos.

If playing 4K videos without an additional device is important to you, you should be looking in the middle end of the market, not the entry end.

    • Thanks for the review! Just saved myself some hassle. Glad I didn't buy it.
