Australia Post Express Post Guarantee - eBay Estimates Different Delivery Date

I just selected Express Post for an item in NSW.

Looking at the Aust Post website, the express post is guarantee is next business day delivery or a refund on the postage. It will be posted 27th, so should hopefully arrive 28th in VIC.

However I noticed eBay put the estimate as Friday 29th. Does what ebay write, override the Aust Post guarantee??

The guarantee would apply to the sender (you won't get any refund for postage except if you try for a refund from PayPal or ebay under not as described etc). Auspost won't care what the item is or how it was sold, the ebay listing means nothing to them.

    • Even though normal postage was free, and I paid the extra $12 for express post? Or the seller would have to apply for the refund and then reimburse me?

      • NO lol its not the sellers fault AU post is late. only if their late on sending it out to au post

No,I mean if the seller posts first thing in the morning tomorrow, under the Aust Post Express guarantee, it should be delivered on 28th. If it misses the date then who would make the claim to get the express post costs reimbursed? The seller, or me?

        • @Sammyboy:

          The seller, or me?

The person is the sender = the seller =/= you! haha

          @Sammyboy:

The seller gets reimbursed, not you.

        • @ronnknee: oks. So would then be up to seller to reimburse me for paying the additional fees for express postage then (if Aust post reimburse them).

          @Sammyboy:

The seller can choose to reimburse you but they don't have to.

        • @Sammyboy: you have zero claim under the auspost guarantee. You could try getting a partial refund through PayPal but that's unlikely to be successful. If you were successful, the seller might choose to get a refund for themselves from auspost in order to fund your refund.

Ebay est del date is just an estimate, if you did not get it by the est date you can open a dispute.

If it is delay cause by Australia post it is 100% nothing seller can do.

  • It will be posted 27th, so should hopefully arrive 28th in VIC.

If it gets posted after the cutoff time on 27th (usually 6pm in metro areas), then it's counted as being posted on 28th and would then arrive on 29th.

EBay's estimates are on the conservative side to try lower buyers' expectations which, in turn, lowers the number of complaints.

Aus post guarantee is crap anyway. Had so many miss the date, raised cases online, they never call or refund. Hate 'em.

So their idea is to stall in replies hoping you will give up

      • yeah and don't even try ringing - by the time they have answered, you have lost the $12.99 Express Post fee in time anyway…

Do you think eBay sellers are sitting in their car at the post office to mail your item as soon as you buy it?
Express post will get it there as fast or faster than parcel post.
When you list an eBay item it asks how long you take to process orders, and if the seller says one or two days they will be added to delivery estimate.

Well that would be the point of offering express post as an option. To post on the day of order before close of business day. Otherwise don't offer it as a postage option. I post on the day when I sell stuff on eBay.

Otherwise don't offer it as a postage option

Still gets it to the buyer faster than the standard option…

      • This is really impractical to wait till 5.59 pm next to Auspost express street box with all your inventory in your car to anticipate last order. See my note below on the use of datelime to process orders in the same day.

Not at all, lol. It's an ESTIMATE!

You will find that the delivery estimate on the sellers page will also include their handling time, which could be 1-3 days.

And I had something sent 3 weeks ago via AusPost Express, both sender and I were within the guarantee network, took 4 days. Go AusPost Go.

Have you asked sender to make a claim for reimbursement of express postage costs?

      • No because I had free postage, got a Archer D9 from Wireless1 for ~$100, wasn't complaining.

    • +1

bingo! OP forgot handling time in there…..

Also keep in mind Posties won't be delivering on Friday the 29th, so if it's small enough that the postman delivers it you wont get it Friday, Parcel Deliveries will still happen though.

  • Australia Post offers 2 different Express services. The over the counter service is guaranteed next day within the network. eParcel Express is the bulk service, doesn’t guarantee next day only faster.

    • None of these are guaranteed next business day delivery. It's a best effort agreement with a reimbursement of the shipping cost option.

      • If you see in the prepaid express satchel, in top right corner it is Guaranteed. And yes, this doesn't apply to express with contract accounts (eparcel).

        • Guaranteed

The next business day guarantee is for the reimbursement of the shipping costs in the event that the contractors don't attempt delivery of the Ep mail articles.

        • @whooah1979: In my experience, regular Express is reliably next day, eParcel Express is not.

Seller usually set dateline of the day , say noon for orders to be processed on the same day. Any orders past that time may get processed as well in afternoon but most likely dispatched the next day instead.

I personally offer express as option with small additional cost. If buyer get it later than 2 working day - I will refund that express cost on buyer request or whenever I notice it. Note on eBay express postage is specified as estimate not a guarantee but yes faster.

I just checked one of my listing and express is set on 29 December even buyer is most likely get it by 28 but definitely not 29 as that date is Auspost annual holiday thus no work.

So far after Christmas none of those customers with express upgrade complain yet on timing so I guess they get them in good time. Auspost is really not that bad. ;)

    Merry Christmas!

  • As far as I am aware Auspost and Couriers don't do business collections from 23rd Dec to 3rd January every year. And things are superslow after as there is a huge backlog. Best of luck but I don't think you will be getting at either of those dates.

Also, Auspost doesn't refund anything. Getting something from them is harder than pulling a bone from a hungry dog. Its all on paper.

    • Probably need every cent after paying 10.8 million to Ahmed Fahour for his final payout!

  • Express Post may be the postage method you chose but there is no guarantee that the seller will post it today. Some sellers take up to a week to post,I have even had some take longer, the sellers handling time is part of the speed it will get to you.
Express post guarantee was done away with a long time back by Australia Post, obviously EBay have not updated. On the Australia Post Express Post satchels now there is no guarantee and it’s a bit flimsy on the time factor too.
Always ask the seller, never assume anything and no you will not get your postage money back no matter what happens.

  • Update - Parcel got delivered this morning around 10am. Extremely good service from the seller, and from Australia Post! Generally I find its the distribution centre in Sunshine West, where everything gets delayed. They are extremely understaffed. Doesn't help that 24 hour operation was also cut by the Ahmed.

    • Postage should be a critical piece of infrastructure, priced low to encourage national and international competition. Instead, it is run as a profit centre, and we are charged ridiculously high rates to compensate the free postage the Chinese get from there to here.

They can ship an item for 90c with tracking that costs me $7.95 to send next door here. How does that make any sense.

      • Ap is operating to make profits from customers so that taxpayers doesn't have foot the bill.

        Makes sense.

        • It's in the national interest - it should not be a profit centre. Like public transport or other gov't services. Revamping the postal system could change the country. I am sure all your Harvey Normans etc love it as it makes it harder for online stores in this country to compete.

        • @singingwolf:

          It's in the national interest

It's actually not in the national interest. The letter service isn't making any money. It costing Ap hundreds of millions of dollars to operate each year. Is mostly used by big corporations sending out bills or statements, which can all be done online.

The other part is the parcel service, which is mostly used for online shopping and not an essential service.

Have look at how much workers in china get paid and you'll understand why.
