Which shops would have good bargains for bed frame (wood/timber, high gloss white) queen or king bed frame and medium to firm mattress in Sydney?

Just remember to bargain hard. The mark ups on mattresses are mad.

Hi mate, I recently have been going through this.
I went the ikea route as I must have under bed storage. I found the MALM pretty much unbeatable for $470 with four storage boxes, a decent quilt and mattress cover.
It's not a bed base/ensemble thing, but at that price, it's pretty damn unbeatable. I upgraded to the Lonset slats for better support.
The mattress is way harder. I went to DJ's and Myer and they pretty much stock Sealy and Sleepmaker I think.
I had two sealy reps at both those stores, and they both said wait until boxing day and get the posturepaedic. Snooze has the posturepaedic for $800 marked down from 2k. They pretty much said piss off the non posturepaedic one. Overall, I was kind of confused with the range, felt pretty much the same. Sales person at snooze said if you don't have a flat base, it will void the 10 year warranty. Seems like a hassle, and there will have a to be a wait for a few weeks delivery. No returns on these guys. Theres mixed reviews on productreview.
I tried the only search, and there's a whole bunch like ecosa, koala and sleeping duck. Sleeping duck and Koala seemed cool, but I tried the Koala out at the local myer and it was wayyyy too soft. I don't think there's a tonne of quality in the online mattresses. They might work, they might now. At least you get a return. I spoke on the phone with Sleeping Duck, and they seemed legit.
Ikea had a whole bunch of sub 1k mattresses, I was only really interested in their top tier pocket sprung. They do offer an exchange, but no returns. 25 year warranty though.
Lastly, I went to Bed Kings in West End. They had a whole bunch of Aussie made mattresses at really affordable prices, as did Sleep Kings, and the sales staff were really great. Will probably end up going with them on Boxing Day.
Honestly, you're rolling dice. My advice is spend atleast 30 mins on each in store. Don't go crazy exxy on them, check the construction and place of manufacture. I wont be spending more than 1k. If you're totally unsure, you can try some online and organise a return if you hate it.
On the mattress topic, we have been pretty happy with an IKEA foam mattress + mattress pad to add a bit of extra depth. It's affordable, firm but comfy and has had pretty much no wear after 5 years. Never had any stiffness waking up or anything from it. They have a bunch of them at IKEA that you can go and try out to see what combo works nicely for you.
Thanks. ..which one is yours and price you paid?
They changed the mattress product names since we bought it unfortunately so I can't be of too much help there - but it's a sultan florvag with a tussoy topper. The mattress was around $250 if I remember correctly, and the topper was the same price. We got the topper 2 years after the mattress, the mattress by itself was fine but the topper made it extra comfy
Never had any stiffness waking up
Thanks. I'll be avoiding this mattress then.
Most bed shops are always having sales. Best bet is just to drive around visiting as many bed shops as you can and negotiate with sales staff. You want to test the mattress so a bit hard to negotiate over phone or websites.
