230

After being an Ozbargain fan for some time, I thought its time for me to share my first post.

I was in the market for a new phone and came across this offer for $59 + $0 Upfront with 20GB Data for some of this year's best phones. The Huawei Mate10 Pro says Out of Stock online, but I went to Optus at Wangaratta yesterday and they had few in stock, you would have to contact your local store for stock and availability for the Mate10 Pro. As for the HTC U11 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium are both available online and in stores.

You've been significantly beaten to the punch. :)

Except the other post doesn't mention these handsets in the title and they've only been thrown in due to the comments ;)

Knowing how much retailers were charging for the XZ Premium, a total cost of $1416 over the 24 months is a decent price worthy of its own entry.
Standalone retail local pricing was $1150+ but it can be found at $800 or so if you get lucky (grey). That would then make it about $25 a month for the 20gb plan. Decent value for a "premium" handset.

      • Ticket the original deal to be updated then?

I don't care enough to. You're the one screaming "repost" :)

  • ozbargain filtering system is so screwed up. You have a deal first started Optus $59 a month with 20gb and subscriptions first (updated with $0 phone). Then you have people who "randomly" walked in to shop and created another post about them randomly walking into shop and found out the high end phones (iphone 8 and Mate 10 pro) are part of the deal. Then you have another post about the same damn deal…

Just be warned, a friend of mine has had an order in for 10 days for the mate 10 and jumped on live chat to find out what was going on. After a bunch of genetic talk about processing time a b so on they went away to their supervisor who finally admitted they had no stock and would give him an update in 10-20 business days…

It's fair to say Optus support is still as useless as ever. Just be careful as my understanding is Optus also have a shortage on a number of devices in this deal.

Had this happen to me, I canceled my online order and found a store nearby that had stock and signed up there.

      • Same - just going to try in-store now.

    • Happened to be and then without warning, the phone arrived. Took about 10 days instead of the originally quoted 2-3.

Word of warning. Optus drag their feet when it comes to phone OS updates. I had to wait over 6 months to get Android N on a P9.
Also have a play with the Mate10 Pro. Their interface called EMui is woefull although from what I'm reading you may be able to install stock Android on it.
It baffles me that these mobile makers insist on putting their in house rubbish on-top of Android.

    • The Sony XZ Premium just got Oreo the other day on Optus/Virgin. It's been out for a little while.

      • It did, however, come out with the December 1 2017 security patch as well, which was a nice surprise.

        • It's normal for newly released phones to get updates but after a year they take their sweet time.

My optus mate 10 pro has had two updates already.

  • Can we get this $59 offer in store?

    • Yes, same offer in store.

The mate 10 pro is phenomenal. Been using it for over a week.

    • Much Optus bloatware and is it only single SIM?

  • +1

Not much bloat ware at all and I believe it's a single sim

  • Went instore today and not available for existing customer :(

  • How is the phone guys? Debating between this or the Nokia 8.
