PayPal in Euro from Australia Goods or Friend?

I need to buy an item from a guy overseas in euro and will be using PayPal.

I need to know what way you recommend I pay as goods or friend?
Is there less fees of the two? And if so which one.
Lets say guy has purchased the item for me already in which a lot would not do and pay upfront.
So I do feel very comfortable buying from him.
Whatever happens i need to make sure he gets right amount.
It's going to be €301 euro so if im paying from here to him in euro as goods how do i work out what to send? If i pay as friend then what do I send.

Whatever option I use I just want to be sure I pay him right amount and not just that pay less fees etc I can.

I'd only pay him via as good.
You need protection just in case the item doesn't arrive.
I'd suggest to use a credit card/ debit card and make payment in euro (no foreign frees like Bankwest or 28degrees or Citibnk)
Refrain from letting PayPal do the currency conversion.

    • How do you refrain from paypal doing the currency conversion? And i would still want to send seller the right amount of 301 euro. Do i need to add extra or do i get options of paying what fees confused.

    • I do also have citi debit card which is fee free but paypal charges you conversation regardless.

    • If i can save on conversion fee great, but also need to be sure he gets full 301 euro.

      • U pay him in 301euros mate.
It should show up via PayPal as u r sending in euro from ur Citibank card.

        • But paypal always charge a conversion when paying from aud to eu etc?
So how are you able to not pay this as that's where paypal make there money.
Also the guy is doing me a favour has purchased item for me as and will require full money back so cant expect him to get less.
I would love yo know how to avoid paying a conversion fee through paypal which can add to costs as i buy a lot overseas.

      • Well as a seller.
The seller should price in the approx 1.5% PayPal selling fee.

The buyer will need to pay PayPal a fee.

    • So as i want to pay as goods i go on my paypal it asks how much i want to send in aud and shows the amount in eu.
It looks to be like $20 plus more than xe.com says. So im taking this is the cut paypal will take in conversation charges as seems a big difference over xe.com.
How do you send someone money without being charged conversion and as said making sure seller gets full 301 euro.
Its the option of using my citi bank card i want to use over paypal but you not explained how to do this.
If im doing my citibank card instead of local currency on amazon my card is normally better and is close to xe.com but using the pay for goods on paypal its like $20 aud plus more than xe.com

      • I just logged on to my paypal to check sending funds over.
        *Pay or send money
        *Pay for goods or services
I only have the options to pay in USD

kinda unsure the options left now.

mayb have your friend try send you a request for funds over paypal in EURO.
Try to pay his request in euro from citibank card.
        wish you luck

        • Is this with my citibank card stored on paypal or by adding the card and paying this way.
I did find a hack some while back where i could change my citibank card to use card conversation but i did silly thing by adding the card again and paying resulting in me still paying paypal conversion fees.
But maybe i should have used same card already stored?
But you have no idea of how much i think bank has charged unless you look at the account to see what come off.
If this hack option works then be good as means i be paying what card charges and not paypal.

Im hearing loads use there fee free cards instead of paypal conversion but i like to know how.

See here http://thefeecalculator.com for how much the fees are. This way you can work out how much to send.

Never send family and friends payments unless you don't mind not receiving anything in return (eg you're just helping your brother out with his rent or something). Always use goods & services. And credit card doesn't hurt in case PayPal won't help and you need to charge back.

Can't you get him to send you a PayPal invoice ? Then pay that.

  • I'm interested to know this as well. Can you do Family & Friends for overseas payment? What then are the fees if any? I can remember how to get Citibank to do currency conversion rather than PayPal if I'm the one paying, but what about receiving payment? Have received some payments from US recently via PayPal and lost a lot in fees.

    • Actually Transferwise Borderless Account looks like a viable option…

      • I never knew about borderless accounts i have transferwise set up already for transfers from uk to aud.
So if i use this borderless option can i use to send from my aud account to say a eu account.
And what about if any issues paypal can help with non received good etc what about transferwise.

        • no, no buyer protection obviously!

  • Ok cool but still handy to have this borderless accounts but my main issue is paying this 301 euro with minimum conversion charge and that seller which is private sell the full 301 euro.

  • And it was said that if you pay with your card rather than bank account its cheaper, how come when i enter $485 it shows 301 euro.

Fee calculator Pay with Estimated fee Total Bank account $16.02 AUD $501.02 AUD
PayPal balance $16.02 AUD $501.02 AUD
Credit or debit card $25.78 AUD $510.78 AU

Honestly im confused whats best cheapest option to use or pay €301 in euros on what paypal shows looks like card is more??

  • Not really they charge me the fees (10,59€) so I got only 186,41€
    I need now again 10,59€
Back in march 2017 I sent a guy €197 can't remember if was goods and services or family and friends pretty sure it was goods.
€197 was was required and it said this what guy would get but he got €186.41 so how does one figure out what to send so guy gets full €301 I'm owe.

    • I gave you the answer in my comment if you read it

      • The fee calculator you gave is in usa dollars and does not help really but you did say not to send as friends and family and use credit card but i dont have credit card.
I ended up paying as good and my debit card and had card bank use conversion
