  • Is Ozbargain really "working with" this site?

  • still a freebie i spose

"1. Download and Install BargainDesk(Windows/Mac) for free."

um, no. I'm not downloading some app that I don't know what it does. Why do I need an app to see bargains? Does it display ads? Is it a data miner? Does it use my computer for free processing?

    • +1

yeah, it might install a Trojan…

      • +1

        Nope . No Trojan.
This program won't use your computer for free processing.

This is just a first step.
I'm still working on an iPhone and Android app.
        Hope people find it useful.

        • what other websites are you also co-operating with, OzBargain, Buckscoop, eBay, and what else?

        • can't install it on my PC, don't have Admin access…

do you have a web interface ?

        • +2

          Seriously… why?
Why would i install an application when i already have an application that shows me the stuff from OzBargain. It's called FireFox.

        • +3

          @mbroere

So you can get a free Bluetooth Adapter :)

    • Definitely displays ads.

  • +2

Hmm… Probably someone trying to cash in on the traffic of ozbargain and others, using their content, while being paid for advertising.

  • +1

instead spend $2 at deal extreme - no need to get on a mailing list and install softwares.

    • First 100 users will be notified via Email and published in http://www.bargaindesk.com.au/promo_top100.aspx

    when?

    • possible when first 100 are filled

    • Actually the last one I got from DX (which looks identical to this one) cost me 99c USD from memory. But now I need another because I took it out recently and lost it due to it's size lol.

Just going to fork out another 99c, or $2 as it may be. I can afford it.

  • So what is the difference between this and the free iphone apps being advertised? Iphone apps have advertisements also.

    • Not all of them…

  • nice app, but isn't it just reading RSS feeds anyway?

EDIT: I take that back, I already found a bug.

  • smells like SPAM

    • +1

not spam. Emails will only be sent if you created a watchlist.

Only items matching your watchlist will be sent to you.

  • +1

    meh

i'd rather they just ask to sign you up to a mailing list like mwave or 9289 rather that running an unknown app 24/7

and this adapter is shit anyway… works fine with mice but seems to have real issues with anything more complicated than that

buy a couple off dealxtreme instead

    • agreed. installing unknown apps is a big no no in my books.

let me sign up to a mailing list or something, but not force me to install software.

  • • To claim, you must be an Australian resident

    how do they check ???

    • postcode probably

      • +1

Sorry. What I meant to say is Australian Postal address.

    • you have to reside in Australia to receive it..

      • so they come around to your place to check ???

        • +1

check that you live in australia? wha? how many tourists visit ozbargain..

        • 11

Looks good bargaindesk. Looks like you've cleaned the UI images and text up a bit. Just checking out the notification system tray thing now.

As a possible suggestion for shop on the left, perhaps Group Buy deals.

    • +1

      Thanks Neil.

The notification should be similar to your suggestion.

Your Group Buy deals is in my list of things to do.

  • i tried once, with an email address, then it said something about "it doesn't have @", so then i tried it again, and it said "email is already in system(well something like that)" so then i made another account, and now i think i have 2 accounts, so rep of bargaindesk, is it possible for me to delete a account

    • Delete this post, and re-post it after you receive both Bluetooth Adapters !!!

      • no that's greedy :)

    • +1

      Hi issh,

I can delete the account. Just send it here http://www.bargaindesk.com.au/contact.aspx

      • done

        • +1

          done

    • Too late… :(

      • awwwwww :0

  • +1

FWIW, bit of consistency on your privacy policy page.
1 time it's [email protected], 3 times it's [email protected]

Edit: and use English (Australian) spell check next time.

    • +1

It's worth a lot.. I got 4 different people review this and you are the only one who picked that up. Thanks!

      I've fixed it.

  • Looks like it time for some sandboxing or virtual PCs

  • has this deal reached 100 users yet?

    • +1

      Nearly halfway.

  • I think this is a perfect example of, whats provided free, is the worth of the app/ploy/product/info a company is attempting to obtain. In this case your installing $2.00 software (which by default starts with windows)

Bargaindesk's future is approaching advertisers saying 'we have an app that is installed on x,000 computers, what deals can we do for (us) our install base.

Personally, i think it detracts from something functional, polished, and social, like ozbargain.
Then again, there's no reason you cant delete the app after you get the dongle or start receiving spam.

  • i like that the password isnt encrypted during account creation. Its annoying, and its like sif I would type in a password with sombody behind me, or if i did i would not care that much

  • HAVE YOU GOT 100 YET?

    • jeez just wait, he's not on 24/7

      • Why not?

  • Just started my PC..

Thanks to all who joined. I have marked the bargain as expired.

I will shortly update the website.

BargainDesk is an Australian based company.
I personally believe that the SPAM ACT will protect you from SPAM from Australian Based company.
BargainDesk would legally abide to this.

BargainDesk app is also digitally signed meaning it comes from an Authentic company. You would not get any Virus or Trojans by installing it.

Thanks to all who have filled up the survey, emailed me and gave their feedbacks.

I personally like the suggestion one made to "configure BargainDesk to display selected bargains from selected feeds". I will look into that.

We hope to improve BargainDesk in the days to come.

  • Just a heads up, if it takes 4.5hrs to update a webpage, the application probably isn't gonna go far either.

    • Hi devz,
I already updated the webpage this morning so people will know that the deal is finished.

As for the list of users, I will update it on 03 Dec 2010 (as stated in the promo terms page)
      http://www.bargaindesk.com.au/promo_terms.aspx

      1. List of first 100 usernames will be published in here on 03 December 2010.

I'm currently working some tasks and once I finish it I'll look into this. Probably I will update the list earlier if I get some time.

      Thanks

      • My apologies then BargainDesk.
Also, the app behaves strangely when using the bottom right resize corner control. Seems one click resizes the Y-axis to a predetermined height, second time u click it, resizes the X-axis to a predetermined width. Just to add to the 'to look into's :)

  • Wahooooooo! Got my confirmation!!!

    • me too. free $1 bluetooth baby!

  • negged for not receiving confirmation (yes, I tried using their contact page first)

    • My confirmation got put in my SPAM folder (Gmail) so may be worth checking there.

    • Hi battler, it must have gone to your SPAM folder. I just replied to your e-mail (if your username is biguser).

I'll be sending a reminder notice to the remaining 40+ users who haven't replied to my e-mail.

      • thanks bargaindesk. neg removed. i will contact you again with a different email addr.

        • No worries.

  • "Hi NAME,

I would like to inform you that the Bluetooth adapter has been shipped to your address at:

    ADDRESS

Delivery time is about 7 to 10 working days, as quoted by the supplier and Hong Kong post office.

But I reckon this will take a little bit longer due to the Christmas season.

Our supplier made a mistake and put my colleague’s name (Michael) in the parcel instead of your name.

Please accept any parcel from Dealextreme addressed to Michael.

They have fixed this for the other claims but couldn’t fix it for yours since your Adapter has been shipped already.

    Please accept my apology.

    Regards,

    Mehrdad"
    .
    .
    .

Well they obviously bought from DX with BULKRATE prices to lower cost, but still win for them and us

    thank you bargaindesk!!!

    • +1

      Yeah just got the same.

Can't wait for the dodgy looks when I have to tell my mailroom to look out for any packages addressed to Michael with no last name from Hong Kong.

      • +1

iish, they charged me full rate since it will be shipped to different addresses.

        Sorry Neil and fellow Ozbargainers.
Please reply to the email I have sent and I will send another bluetooth to your address and your name.

  • just got mine, thanks.

  • The Bluetooth Adapter arrived in todays post, thanks
