Anyone still got a working Huawei Y300?

If anyone still owns a working Y300 with battery that hold a reasonable charge I'd be grateful if you could test out your phone and tell me if your Y300's wifi can still be enabled with the battery completely removed but hooked up to your charger to power it.

I've been given one with a dead bloated battery but having this issue with wifi and wanted to check if its something that can simply be fixed by buying a new battery before I actually buy one.

Cheers

we've got one, battery was flat as not currently used. no sim installed.

without battery it wouldn't turn wifi on - it said "turning wifi on…" for about 10-15 seconds then the 'toggle switch' went from 'on' to 'off'.

plugged in with flat battery installed; performance sluggish, but wifi turned on and connected to home network (new router in use since phone was stopped being used).

let it charge for an hour. wifi works and connected to internet.

took battery out again and plugged into USB cable - no wifi again. note that is PC USB cable, not a charger.

plugged into charger & cable - same result - no wifi.

it's a very slow phone, how much is a battery?

    • Awesome, thanks heaps for confirming that. Was hoping that would be the case.

I've also noticed that without the battery connected the phone will restart if I attempt to start the camera app, does yours do the same by any chance??

Ebay and Aliexpress have batteries from about $10-$15 delivered so probably worth a shot as a spare phone for the kids to play with as the phone is in great condition (I think he just used it as a tester for Android development).

yep, phone restarted about 2 seconds after the camera started with no battery.

ours was my daughters, bought as a 'toy' with her pocket money before she needed a phone, then used it as a phone for 9 months before getting hand me down S6 from wife.

        • Thankya muchly Nugs. Wish I had a handmedown S6… I'm still rockin an iPhone 5 with a dodgy touch screen. :)

  • I have 1

    • If you wanted to try testing without the battery installed and see if wifi can be enabled when powered from charger, that would give me a double confirmation.

  • Mine won't even boot to system without a battery in it, (mind you I'm running RR on it, Android 6.01). Battery still showed as having 82% on it despite not being used for almost 4 years, (pre Y550, RN2, G5+ phone).

    • interesting… was RR much better than the Huawei stock? Is RR Resurrection Remix??

      • Yes, Resurrection Remix.

Can't honestly say if it was better, I was well onto the next phone, (Y550), by the time I installed it and I was just looking to see what I could put on it since I couldn't find a stock ROM at the time.

You can have it for the cost of postage if you want it, (sans charger, earphones, etc) … get a battery and a spare phone ;D

        • Lovely offer but maybe you could hand it down to someone close by.

        • @Gravy: lol, more than likely end up going into the bin at Officeworks.

Everyone I know has something better :)
