Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S GPS - $263.08 Delivered @ Ryda eBay

110
POWERUP

$263.08 delivered using the POWERUP 20% discount code that expires midnight 27/12

This GPS has a 6.95" edge to edge LCD screen and can update itself via wifi.

Includes free maps for the lifetime of the GPS and 1 year Australian warranty.

In my experience Garmin make a decent GPS - a hell of a lot better than Navman and the Chinese generics anyway….

Note this is a DriveSmart - not a Drive model. DriveSmart is a considerable improvement on the Drive.

  • I got one of these from JB Hifi, really clear and crisp large display and easy to navigate.

  • "free maps for the lifetime of the GPS "
    So 2 years then?

    • +1

      You would hope at least 3 - it's not a Navman…

I have a Garmin still going strong after 4 years. Only thing that’s not included is updated speed cameras from what I can tell. A bit annoying

  • What’s the difference between drivesmart and drive models?

    • Bigger better edge to edge screen, wifi, traffic (on some models).

  • I bought one back in May and it came with Europe maps on an SD card and Australia pre loaded. Worked well in Europe and even showed live Fuel prices in Germany, in Australia it shows lots of fuel depots that are just stopping areas for trucks so hard to tell if a real fuel stop.
The unit syncs with the phone running the Garmin app so live traffic and alerts, speed cameras etc can be received if your phone has a data connection. You can also find a destination on your phone and send it to the Garmin to navigate.

    • Pretty sure speed cameras dont need the bluetooth phone connection - at least most of the fixed ones are already inbuilt into the map

True for the Aussie speed cameras and i purchased the subscription from Garmin for Australia. When I was in Europe though I got speed camera alerts via the Garmin app on my phone as I did not have a speed camera subscription for Europe.

    • Out of interest where did you get it with Europe maps and how much was it?

I'd love to get the Philippines maps, but they often cost as much if not more than the GPS itself!

I got the same deal from: Johnny Appleseed
Free Europe maps or a $50 caltex voucher. My unit cost me $329 delivered back in May this year. Best nav unit I have ever owned, I love the huge screen and the upcoming junction photos it uses.
I also picked up the Non Skid Mount Nuvi Series later. I did buy a cheapo dash mount from Aliexpress, but it was useless. The Garmin mount is like a bean bag base with heavy metal beads, and rubber not slip base, it stays wherever we put it, even when my wife drives :-)

        • Yep thats the deal I got also!
Also noticed the Garmin BC30 optional camera has 20% off so thinking of picking one of these up for the camper trailer.https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Garmin-BC30-Reversing-Camera-010-12242-10-with-GEN-GARMIN-WARRANTY/122031121376?epid=1244598784&hash=item1c699f23e0:g:hYEAAOSwQcJaOyJF

        • I also bought at the same time as you. and yes - excellent product. About the mount, seems you bought an old model of mount. Ive got the rubber mount.

  • It's a huge display and attracts thieves

    • Not sure where you park your car, but a GPS unit is so cheap these days most thieves couldn't be bothered.

It is large, that's whats good about it…

      • I park my car in a car park, to your point $263 is not exactly cheap for thieves to stop stealing.

        • Can always take it with you when you leave the car or just put it somewhere not easily seen. Although $263 isn't exactly much if you're already driving tbh…

  • I’ve never seen a better display screen other than this GPS. Even in comparison with Nuvi 2597LMT HD

  • Johnny Appleseed still have the $50 Caltex voucher offer - but you are paying $329 to get the GPS and a $50 voucher - so this EBAY deal at $263.08 is better.

No sign of the alternative bundle of free other region maps on the Johnny Appleseed site anymore….

  • I find the iPhone app needs to be constantly opened every couple of days as it gets booted out of the RAM on my iPhone 7. The calls will still come through (as this is normal BT) but all the 'smarts' won't work until you open the app and it reconnects. Tomtom's implementation of using BT tethering works more reliably.

Also the calling function on mine was pretty terrible. Lots of static. Also the mic picks up the sounds coming from the speaker.

I'm not expecting dedicated handsfree calling quality but if you're going to offer it as a feature it needs to be better implemented.

Also I find things like POI's really out of date and even some fixed speed cameras that have been around for many years missing. There's no way to report anything missing.

Otherwise like what others have said, the screen is fantastic. Big, crisp and responsive.
