  • Hollymolly that is cheap great find, great xmas pressie !!!!

Did you choose the gift wrap and rocket ship delivery option?

  • Great speaker, good price

  • +2

Looking to improve sound from the bedroom TV, would this work?

    • +1

Yes you can to connect the headphone out jack on the TV to the aux in on the speaker with a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable. I had to change the headphone out setting to audio out (fixed) to increase the volume on my Sony TV. I just tried it with my Sony SRS-XB20 and it sounds much better than the TV speakers but I think a soundbar would be better and more practical though.

It's old and on The way out. Unless you're a cult follower (who will neg me), there're better ones for less or similar price for better.

    • +13

Always nice to let people know what they are rather than be mysterious

    • +3

Great to see a detailed post giving the community information to make an informed choice.

Oh, hold on which are the mysterious speakers"that're" better again?

      • Sony are much better. Richer sound and less flaky. No omnidirection speaker so bad for outdoors.

    • +9

The only reason I can think of to not get one of these at this price is if you need something IPX rated or primarily want to use it outdoors.

We have one of these and a JBL Charge 3 and there's no contest in terms of sound clarity and balance. If I'm closer than a metre or two to the JBL while it's playing loudly then it really shows its flaws. The Bose I can have sitting right next to me and it still sounds great even at low volumes.

Get this if you want something for personal portable listening indoors. Get a party speaker like the JBL (and most others) if you need something that will fill a room with sound and take a bit of abuse.

      • +3

        Great summary.
Sound great at low volumes. Can put it on the bed next to me and enjoy every tiny detail of the music.

      • yeah its great for indoors for 1-2 people.
I love taking it travelling for some music in the hotels rooms.
love the clarity over the loudness.
        definitely not a party speaker

  • Good speakers, works really well for me

  • Would recommend trying out the Sony equivalent before purchasing.

I found them to be better.

    • +1

I second this. Bose low end stuff are unimpressive.

      • +5

Again, it really depends on the music you're listening to. All Bluetooth speakers are lacking in the bass department and any claims about "Extra Bass" etc. are more about EQ tweaking or use of passive radiators than actual increased bass.

If I'm listening to anything that is bass driven or has very distinct high and low frequency elements (e.g. psytrance, drum & bass etc.) the JBL Charge 3 is my go-to. For any other music with complex mid-range frequencies or elements of the music that overlap frequency-wise (e.g. jazz, rock, metal, anything with vocals), the Bose Soundlink Mini II sounds objectively better. The sound of the latter is much more open and spacious (for want of a better description) and doesn't sound as compressed or muffled as it does on "party" speakers.

Then I go and listen to music on my Swan M50Ws and wonder why I ever use Bluetooth speakers. :)

    • What is the Sony equivalent? A friend has this, and I find the sound exceptional- bass reproduction in particular is great

  • Do they / does it work with a TV?

    • +1

It has AUX in so if your TV has a headphone jack then you can use a wired connection. Presumably if your TV can connect to an external Bluetooth speaker then it'd work through that protocol too.

I wouldn't buy one to specifically use it as a sound bar but I'm sure it'd sound better than most built in TV speakers.

      • Ok thanks for that. I’ll keep an eye out for a soundbar.

        • +1

I bought it and use it as a sound bar.

It sounds much better than most sound bars out there and it's more compact.

And it's bose designed speakers so much better quality then any speakers they have in sound bars

Not much of a bargain if you ask me when its only $35 cheaper than at Jbhifi :S

    • +4

They may have tight profit margins….$35 cheaper still counters. I guess everyone expected bargains to be around 50% off….thats not gona happen

    • +3

Even if it's a dollar cheaper people will still go for it, $35 cheaper is a lot in my books, so this is definitely a better deal.

    • +1

It's 15%+ off an already decent price. You're complaining about that?

    • +1

This comment on a site where everyone goes nuts for 10% off eBay and 5% off protein powder…

  • Do you reckon we can price match with JB hi-fi?

    • +1

Should be able to, is expect them to even better the price.

      • How to price match eBay deal?

  • Cheers OP. Was waiting on one of these to pop up on sale again after I missed out on Myer's deal. Will miss Christmas delivery but will just have to wrap an IOU in a box and deliver it slightly late.

  • Can this be plugged in all the time?

    • Yes, either directly to the mini USB port or sitting in the dock, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a portable speaker.

      • Thanks for the response… yeah I am looking for a bluetooth speaker that isn't portable :)

  • Ooh this is a great deal. I own one already and was wondering if i could pair two of these to a laptop to play music.

    • Not by the Bluetooth that's built into the speakers unfortunately. That can be done with the Soundlink Revolve series.

Second best option is to set something like this up, but you'd get a much better sounding pair of wired computer speakers for the same price.

  • +1

Rang JB Hifi in SA and they willing to beat the price and sell one of these units for $164.00 - apparently they are now a discontinued item. But a good way to get your hands on one this side of Christmas if you cant wait for them to be delivered.

    • If you have a receipt can you upload it? :)

      Please*

    • Do you have a receipt?

  • Tried JB in Westfield carousel, they wouldn’t do it for $164

  • awesome price, just bought one a few weeks ago for $190 and thought that was a steal.

  • Cheapest I've seen

  • Great deal. If I didn't have my Mi speaker I'd probably get one.

  • Good price OP!
