Extended Warranty on 2011 Toyota Prado from Toyota Dealer

Hey guys
Apologies if this has been asked before.
I bought a 2011 prado from a Toyota dealer with 100,000km. It has an impeccable service history, but I think it's done a fair bit of towing.

I am considering getting the extended warranty, 5 years for $1300 due to the cars age and the fact that is is 4x4 and has done towing.

I don't have the exact terms and conditions in front of me and I can't find them online, so I will enquire tomorrow.
I am considering getting it if I can service wherever is convenient for me and that I won't lose my warranty it I miss the service date my a small period or small amount of kms.

It covers about 20 things for between $500-$2000 (I understand some things may be more than that) and it would be minuscule if my engine exploded. However, I feel like my crap is always breaking and going wrong and it would be some good peace of mind.

Thanks for any help guys :)

Unless it's manufacturer warranty, it's useless.

      Offerred 'through' the manufacturer? Haha
      Thanks :/

      • Read this first

        • That didn't help me much cos it's about the first 3 months. I'm talking 5 years. Thanks though. Glad he sorted it!

Is it a genuine Toyota extended warranty underwritten by Toyota themselves? Read the warranty terms and make sure it is. If it's underwritten by anyone else, it's basically useless and a dealer scam.

Edit: just saw the picture. This is not a genuine warranty but rather a used dealer warranty. I would tell them to shove it as it's not worth the paper it's written on.

        • About all I can see is awn insurance

        • @ozhunter: Dunno, I don't trust productreview reviews, given the number of marketing schills on there. Some of those reviews sound a bit outrageous, but that may be my old man jadedness clouding my view on the world. :)

        • @ozhunter:

The three first one star ratings we read tells a story where the customers blames the insurer for an unsatisfactory service. The insurer then replies with their version of events, which includes information that the customers conveniently left out.

Some customers don't even know that they're buying and then wants make a claim for repairs that isn't included in their policy.

    • Not totally useless, you could use it as toilet paper.

There are many types of extended warranties… until you see the hard copy of the contract then you (and we) will not have any idea of the conditions. Most are full of exclusions and not worth the $ …..
The best form of insurance for that sort of thing is a good mechanic who regularly services your car, not a dealership.

  • Skip the warranty and set the $1300 aside. I'm sure in 5 years you will still have most, if not all of it left, plus interest.
