this is BT WIFI only no 4G (cant insert simcard) - but you really want sim card on tiny smart watch? it will drain the battery like a flash. someone joked, for smartwatch with 4G you will need to turn off the phone feature and turn on only when you need it otherwise when you really want to make a call the battery already dead…. lol useless lithium technology.

Do you know what sort of activities the CIA engage in, daily?

    • -1

Are there any smartphones or tablets in your household?

      • No, I live in a log cabin in the woods.

…because apparently I'm not allowed to use spyware devices. Nor remove most of their obnoxious data-collecting spyware infestations.

        Nor disable hidden 'services'.

I am not allowed to use a modern phone or tablet or PC because by using them and knowing the extent of their spyware infestations (by using them), this somehow invalidates what I have said in the minds of those who know nothing about their devices, who I naturally must answer to.

I must not discuss the CIA / NSA State Intelligence links of all the leading OSs and their vast data collection practices without living in a remote log cabin using my Homebrew operating system.

Because by using a CIA / NSA state intelligence data collection device, all my comments are null and void.

        …in the eyes of some.

        • It was just a question.

I wasn't saying your not allowed these devices.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that adding a watch wouldn't give any more information about you than your phone is already giving away.

        • -1

          @No:
Some commenters seem to be of the belief that commenting on a modern device is something I should be giving up.

          Re: watches
Yeah likely right. Especially if it is a 'dumb' Casio like mine. Hah.

    • Its Huawei, more likely Chinese know what you are up too.

Mods, we could really use a block button or something.

For anyone who's looking to pick up this watch, you'll get the best performance from it if you disable "OK Google" detection. Just a heads up.

    • Is that turned off out of the box?

      • +1

i believe, turned on. but easy to turn off, no need root or anything just a toggle

    • Mods, we could really use a block button or something.

      From the help, FAQ:

How can I block posts from certain users or stores?

Find a post by that user or store, then click the hide button. You have an option to:

      • Hide any deals for that store
      • Hide any deal made by that poster
      • Hide NSFW deals
      • Hide Targeted deals.

      help

Also please use the report link. With 126,000 comments a month, we can't read every single one. Thanks.

Ha. I didn't even know what you're referring to since I'd blocked them ages ago!

      • Smart, took till now for me.

  • How do you find the call function? eg. hearing for both parties?

Any good apps for voice-to-text note taking?

    • +1

Works fine on mine, both sides can hear clearly even in my noisy car.

  • Android pay supported and working here in Australia?

    • yes no problem! forgot …will update post.

  • What's the battery life like?

    • in the beginning people will play a lot with their new toys so dont expect good but after weeks i think should last for 1.5 days under normal usage.i believe this is better than HW1

  • Isn't that latest android wear 2.7 (that's what i've got on my Ticwatch S) which runs android wear

Also pity Cashrewards doesn't have 6% off watches anymore

    • latest is oreo some people already got it! (fossil, armani watches, Lg)

  • +1

Sorry. I disagree. All smart watches NEED to have LTE Mobile connectivity in it to be actually effective and usable. BT range is too limited (eg. walking away from your desk or even going downstairs). WIFI helps a bit, but it's not applicable in office situations where they have corporate WIFI. Only LTE Mobile will allow you to properly receive missed messages whilst you are away from your phone / desk.

There is a very good reason why the LTE Apple watch is selling like hotcakes at the moment. Once you go LTE Mobile on the watch, you dont want to go back. This is actually one of the main reasons why the Smartwatches havent been as successful as they should be.

    • agree but our battery lithium tech isnt good hasnt improve since dinosaur age.
do you know the real usage time for that apple watch after say 5-10 phone calls plus notifications etc? if they can last 5 hours its okay. but working office hour is 8 so its not good enough for most people.

      https://www.cultofmac.com/503929/apple-watch-3-review-roundu…

      • Not really. I hardly really use it for voice calls except if I am away from my desk for extended period of time and someone calls through. My Urbane 2 LTE lasts about 1.5 days on moderate usage (all notifications, simple replies, simple web browse, etc). The biggest sucker I find is GPS so if you enable it for walks and exercise, it will chew through the battery (down to 5 hours maybe). Even Voice calls aren't very battery consuming from what I have experienced. The AW2.0 update did drop my battery a bit though I must admit (originally was 2 days+).

        • i see U2 sounds good! must be expensive i got this HW just $200, second hand pristine condition.
but that apple watch, reading reviews i dont know if it is good.
but as usual, everything apple put inside glass window people will buy like a hot apple pie.

        • @dragonindespair: Yeah.. its pretty nice watch. I was gonna get the local stock Huawei last month with those big ebay specials.. went down to around $400 delivered from memory.. But that was with LTE. Honestly though, having used Smartwatches for 7 years now, the killer feature missing had always been full independence of the device - and that can only be achieved through cellular.

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Huawei-Watch-2-4G-Sport…

          Next 20% off sale.. hmmm..

        • @bchliu: if you really need hw2 4g now just buy from gumtree I see as low as $350

But afaik there is no sim sharing in Australia yet so you put sim card in there with different number from what you have in the phone? Or just sim with data?

        • @dragonindespair: SIM sharing is available - only in e-SIMs for Apple Watch at the moment (I know its stupid). I have a TPG $1 SIM in my watch and I pretty much divert my calls to it "when unavailable". So people call my main number and then if I dont answer in three rings, it will divert over to my watch. Data wise, the watch is always in sync even when I am away from the phone. So if I went out without my phone, all messenger / whatsapp / wechat / viber / Skype / SMS / general notifications will still come through the watch - which I can also do quick replies to even though the phone isnt with me.

Thats why having cellular is so important in the watch - not just because of calls, but you sync all your messages, notifications etc all through the connection. Data usage is low too on the watch and I hardly ever use more than the freebie 50MB of data a month that TPG gives me on the $1 plan. Not to mention having access to internet and even proper Google Maps on the go since it is GPS and Cellular data to load the maps from.

        • @bchliu: ok completely forgot about diverting calls, and I got it about whatsapp Skype etc but sms? Smses will come to he phone only, right? But yeah overall I understand.

        • @dragonindespair: SMS also gets sent over as a message too if you install the right app. By doing all this, it basically replicates the SIM sharing anyway unless you wanna make a call (TPG's $1 SIM plan is 10c a min from memory). Throw in Android Pay for AW2.0 and you basically can walk out of the house with nothing but your watch. BT headphones also pair to it too so that you can have about 2GB of music on there. Grab the Basic web browser if you are in dire need to FB or something. lol.

That's what Smartwatches should have been like from the very beginning and you'd have more people take it up.

        • @bchliu: I see. Alright sell me your urbane cheap when you get hw2 4g ok? :)

        • @dragonindespair: lol.. The HW2 LTE isnt any better than the LG Urb2 except it is local stock and has more local bands than mine. But yeah if you get it, can do very much the same thing on it. I keep telling everyone that once you go Cellular with the Smartwatch, you'd never want to go back because most of those functions just doesnt work anymore.

I'll wait for the next gen of AW if it ever becomes available. Given up on Samsung Gear platform (Tizen) as not enough support and they've gone backwards in functionality.

  • Thanks mate, been on the fence about this watch vs the Ticwatch S/E.

At this price it's worth paying the extra $50 or so over the S for the NFC and ambient light sensor. Looks like the battery will last longer as well. Purchased

    • Of course get this one. Can't compare reputable brand vs kick-starter.
