I only use QI charging rarely as a quick bump charge. Obviously new tech and toys are appealing but in reality it's pretty inefficient and a lot of the wasted energy is lost as heat which warms up your phone and decreases battery life.

    Seems pretty cheap tho…

    • I charge my s7 and s8 on a no name wireless fast charger. It's decent speed and I don't get the overheating I keep hearing about. Wonder what causes that.

      • What people are worried about isn't "overheating" per se. It's the that wireless charging creates some more heat than regular wired charging. And higher temps directly result in more wear on the battery and a shorter battery life. So these days with sealed phones with non (/expensive) replaceable batteries there is a concern about battery longevity.

Admittedly there's not much in the way of solid data as to how it would affect regular people, and whether these effects would even matter in the short life cycle of modern phones. But it's definitely a thing.

        • True. Well to be clear the heat that im feeling is no different to when i run certain intensive apps. It's very slightly warm, well within normal operation. Perhaps the concern is if the heat is coming from the chipset or the battery. I assume when its charging the heat is coming directly from the battery and not any part of chipset.

        • @bangmango: I'm not an electrical engineer, so I would welcome any corrections… But as far as I understand wireless charging also has heat coming from the induced current in the coils/antenna and the AC-DC rectifiers/transformers.

Again I really don't know how significant these are, nor their long term effects. I myself use wireless charging with my S8 and can confirm it doesn't exactly get hot to the touch. In fact my phone gets much (much!) hotter when I'm driving and wired charging whilst running the navigator and streaming internet radio.

  • Would this charge an s8+ as fast as a wireless charger can charge ?

    • +7

It will wireless charge as fast as a fast charger can charge if a wireless fast charger can charge fast.

  • Does it come with the input charger or do i need to supply one myself?

    • They usually don't include the fast charger wall plug.

  • Any support for or anyone tested with YotaPhone 2?
