  • Vultr charge $5 for 1GB VM and you charge $11?? Why is this a deal? This more like a robbery.

    • Cloudways is a managed hosting on top of Vultr infrastructure. If you directly go to Vultr, you have to first buy server, then set it up, install OS, install and configure each package in the stack, install other necessary packages (like composer), and managed and maintain server yourself. If you launch Vultr with Cloudways, you don't need to do any of that. Just launch Vultr server from platform in a click of a button after choosing app, server size and datacenter, and in few minutes your server will be ready. Then you can get started with deploying your app to the server through git, ssh or sftp, whichever you prefer, right away. You don't even need to manage or maintain your servers. Any server related issues are handled by the platform team. This way you can focus on your app only. Plus you also get all those features.

      • I still don't get it.

You can deploy wp with few clicks on most cloud providers, ie: https://www.vultr.com/apps/wordpress

Git, ssh, sftp and auto update for system packages built in.

Im not sure if the platform team can do magic if the problem is with the host ie hardware/network issue.

        • Yes, but they are not managed. They just provide quick deployment that's all. Whereas, Cloudways will manage and maintain your servers as well. Any patch or update to server packages will be handled by the team. If there are issues from infrastructure, for example, if Vultr is down, then such issues can only be handled by Vultr team. Such issues are rare, but when they happen they affect all vultr users, even those who are not hosted through Cloudways.

I still don't get how cloudways add any value and justify charging almost double.

Any patch or update to server packages will be handled by the team.

On most WordPress box the update handled automatically.

If Vultr is down, then such issues can only be handled by Vultr team

So what do you do? Shifting blame when things goes south?

        • @pig:

No no. We don't shift blame. When things like that happen, we work alongside Vultr or other supported IaaS team to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

Cloudways is not competitor of Vultr or any other IaaS provider, instead we compliment each other. We are partners. Vultr provide infrastructure, i.e. hardware and other stuff, and Cloudways provide hosting on top of that infrastructure.

If you are hosted on Vultr directly, you will have to handle all the issues yourself. This will take your time and efforts. For example, if issue occurs in the middle of night you will have to tend to it. You can hire a team of sysadmin to handle operations, server management and system administration, but that will still cost you money. With Cloudways, you don't need to experience any of that, because our experts are here 24/7. If any issue related to web or app, not general, occurs on your server, it will be dealt by our expert. You won't be bothered. Plus you can minimize your cost because you might not need any team to for operations, management and administration.

This is how Cloudways adds value.
