Upto $700 off Samsung S8 or Note8 with Your Old Phone Trade in

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just got this email from Samsung, offering to trade up to a new phone by giving up my old one. Works at about $360 off with trading in my S7. Not sure if it's worth it, would appreciate OZ community pundits' opinion on the deal and trade value. could I do this at HN to combine with AmeEx deal?

Edit: Sounds like not as hot a deal as I hoped, thanks everyone for their input, I knew I could count on you guys!

I don't think this is a bargain at all.

To get $700, you need to give them your iPhone 7 Plus 256GB which you can sell on gumtree etc for $850…

Its the same sort of idea for any other phone.

Samsung phones have short life in these days - die soon after warranty finish.

    • True, based on iPhone cost alone, but if you combine the two?

      • What are we combining?

        • The cost of Note8 - $360?
Or, nevermind, you saying I could sell iphone (if I had it: ) and buy N8 outright to get a better deal, right?

        • @Catut:

Yes. And combined with going to a cheaper store, you win even more.

    • agree, my friend trade in his 7p 128g for a 8p 64g value at $900+

    • Also forgot to mention, this is in store credit meaning you won't be able to go and buy a discounted note 8.

So its even less then $700, maybe more like $500-600

  • based on mobile monster only offering $250 for a mint condition galaxy S7, assuming you were upgrading, it isn't a terrible deal. that said, im yet to see any australian stores that sell galaxy phones at even remotely competitive prices. far better off getting a grey import from a reputable seller like qd_au which includes a good warranty through the vendor.

    For an LG Nexus 5

If your device meets all of the below conditions, you could receive:
    $25Credit^

The display is functional, not chipped or cracked and there are no signs of liquid damage, discolouration or LCD bleeding The device is able to power up, hold charge and the battery does not appear to be swollen The enclosure is of original manufacturing and is not cracked, fractured or bent All of the keys and buttons are intact, not partially cracked and are working properly Find My iPhone/iCloud/Android/Google Smart Lock and/or Carrier activation locks and passwords have been disabled

  • Bad deal. Better off selling ur old phone and buy a grey one.

    • Funny story: I religiously sold my old handsets as soon as I bought a new one. Then my phone bootlooped on me; I didn't have a spare to fall back on. I had to buy a cheap interim phone. It was an Android 5.1 with specs that were inferior to an iphone4.
Lesson? Never buy an LG phone.

  • You get $600 for galaxy s8 lol, if you trade now, if you trade after new year only 400. Stupidity

I have a S7 that would only sell for $370-$380 on gumtree and then I would be looking for a grey market S8 which could cost around $700(after sales)…but if I go with the Samsung trade-in I get S8 for $640($1000-$360)…$640 for an Australian S8 is good deal I reckon….

    • If I could get another $100 off with AmEX at HN I would go for it!

      • I am not sure about Amex as I don't have one….but does anyone know what sort of credit we get?

        • Darn it, says amex offer "expires in 12 days" . I better check with HN ppl if they accept Samsung offer

  • $340 for my note 5…. yay or nay?

  • There is an AMEX offer (20% off for a minimum spend of 1699).I don't know whether these offers can be combined

  • "$360 off with trading in my S7"
so what phone with be worth $700? made from pure gold?

  • Checked with HN, they dont participate in Samsung tradein, so no chance to use their Amex deal. So yes, this wasnt a bargain. Oh well, S9 is going to be an awesome phone ;)
