POD 3 GPS Pet Tracker $189 Including Free Lifetime Subscription (Valued at $215) + Free Postage @ POD

150

This is the latest 3G version, seen them in Petbarn for $255, their website is selling them for $189. Use a referral link to get another 10% off bring it down to $170.10, the best part of the deal is no annual subscription fee (normally $71.40 per year/ $215 lifetime), so it's a once off cost only. Note that this is not just a Bluetooth tracker (eg: Tile), but it actually can use 3G cellular network (using Voda/Optus).

Fully waterproof, the battery last 3-5 days depending if it is within your Wifi network, how often you track etc. It comes with 2 batteries so you can always swap them daily if needed. The app is pretty nicely designed. My dog goes everywhere with me so I bought it for peace of mind. Even though it's a "pet" tracker you can use it to track anything (car/boat/boyfriend/girlfriend)

Next year they will bring out more modules (Bigger batteries, USB dock for continuous power supply, flashlight etc). It's an Australian company and their (local) support is very good (tested them).

First post, hopefully it's something worth posting! Thanks!

        @shapers

Code still working now and it’s unlikely that their website is running on AEST time.

      • code still works now

        thanks again op

    • ends up to be $160, thanks

    • @robbo600

Thanks mate. I wasn’t even looking for a dog gps but made an impulse buy because our dog is an escape artist when we leave her with family and I want a tool to help them find her (and for us to make sure they are not losing her).

Little bit nervous about a business model that has “lifetime” free tracking.

    • Amazing, thanks for sharing.

  • Would Read reviews before buying this. No point having a tracker on your dog if it doesnt locate it when lost.
Havent used the product myself but reviews arnt great.

Most of those reviews are for the older 2G version, mine has no trouble locating at all.

Hi POD owners, does it have ACMA RCM (AU approval)?

I suppose ACMA radiation requirement is safe for human but is it safe for pets? Pets are exposed to the same level of non-ionizing radiation (from mobile devices) as human, however their size is usually smaller than us, so their radiation exposure per weight will be higher than us. Does anyone study the radiation effect on pets?

  • How do the Podtracker people ship? Courier or Australia Post? Couldn’t see the answer yet on the website.

    • Mine was ship via AusPost

      • Thanks Sheppy, I assume the parcel is too big for the guy who delivers the letters by scooter? I’d be happy if it was big enough that the AP parcel guy is the one delivering.

A Google Play store app review says the Lifetime = 4 years, however I can't see that in the T&Cs unless I am blind.

  • any idea how long the delivery will take?

    • I ordered 4 days ago, and got an email that they are shipping today.

      • Same here, I ordered last Sunday and I got the shipped email today. Pity that it will now be about 28/12 before it arrives.

        • My two will be delivered today, but I'm in NSW so same state as they are.

I bought this via Kickstarter a year ago :) I was then in the beta testing group.

They have gone through a lot of iterations trying to get the firware / software working well. I think that it is now at a good place.
The batteries have a tendency to break but would be replaced under warranty.

There have been a few instances recently of the whole service going offline which causes panic for people trying to locate their pets. I cannot quote downtimes but it would me maybe a couple of hours, not days at a time. The good news is that the owner and main team are based in Sydney so they should be on it if their is an issue whilst you are awake :)

It can take a while to get hold of the support team since they can be busy.

I am still waiting for my modules :(

Ensure that you download the latest firmware when prompted on the app and start it up in a large open space and leave it for 5-10 minutes to get a lock. Once it has done this then you should be good to go.

I could be wrong but when you request a location it will search for Bluetooth (eg close to your phone), WiFi and GPS at the same time. However it ceases location searching after 2 minutes so may not return a GPS if this is the case.
In these instances it is a good idea to turn on "adventure mode" which will turn on GPS and will only switch it off once you end the adventure mode. This should get you a GPS lock even if it takes a couple of minutes.

Shout if you have any other questions :)

ps: There is a POD users group on facebook who can help you with any questions at any point :) https://www.facebook.com/groups/125062708264822/
