Looks like it's going to be Freemium anyway.. so it's Free whenever. No Deal here really.

    • It is free. What is the deal?

    That looks terrible.

  • Is beta so it would get better.

    In theory…

    • Well, since 1998 it has been in beta, you get the idea
      but free is free

Anyone want a mmorpg version of battlefield 1942 but more glitchy?

I'm not sure "beta" is the right term for this game. It's been around for a very long time.

Initial release date: 6 June 2001

….holy shit, a game that's been in development since 2001……and it's still going?! That's the longest game I've seen/heard about that's still in development phase….

    • what?

I've played wwIIol on and off for around 10 years. The term beta doesnt really work here, the game is simply tweaked and changed as time goes on.

Ignore the graphics, this game is about the experience, it plays on a much grander scale than a standard FPS like Battlefield or COD. I know most game developers tout that their game is all about strategy and tactics…but this game i would argue really is. There are no crappy powerups, you dont just drop into a game and start firing away, it can be slow but rewarding.

You can spend hours crawling around through the bushes sneaking up to enemy tanks or forward bases to die in a single shot, but when you pull off your objective its very rewarding.

I have always thought that wwIIol has the perfect flight mechanics for a game, its not simplified like an console or arcade game, but you dont need to be an actual real life pilot to fly. However, you can run out of fuel, ammunition, overheat your engine and crash a plane if you arent paying attention.

Anyways enough about that, there is an Australian Clan called the ANZACs and that are very well organised and are all a friendly bunch. Australians make up a big part of the player base when the yanks are sleeping.

Don't judge this game by just graphics, give it a go :).
