Click Energy QLD Price Increase 1 Jan

Hi anyone else getting price increases over the new year for QLD in south east QLD under Energex?

I called click and they said its an increase from Energex. However it seems other energy providers are only increasing in Victoria over the new year from what I been reading. No announcement that similar is happening in QLD or other states.

Tempted to switch to Origin with their new 21% plan as even without the 21%, both peak and controlled prices are cheaper than Click plan with 18% off.

Come Jan 2018 my Click Opal plan will be a couple of cents more (before 18% off)
Daily supply : 136.8c / Peak 31.578c / Tariff 33 29.412

vs

Origin
Daily supply : 116.95c / Peak 24.5c / Tariff 33 20.48

Probably wont be a big difference in quarterly bills as i only did about 8kwh/day over winter/spring.

  • Energex (and indeed every distributor not in Victoria) changes rates on a financial year basis (i.e. 1 July) not calendar year basis. So…that's not the reason.

Churn to Origin or Alinta depending on what works best for your usage.

    • thanks for the info. that's what I suspected as well. Bull from Click(think they are using offshore customer service, lady sounded like she was from philippines.

Been a happy customer for a few years but looks like I'll have to flick them this time round, not for Alinta but for Origin.

Do you know if Origin does a quarterly payment plan?

  • I'm getting ripped off from Cliq, will be changing over soon.

  • We have just moved to Alinta, after comparing, they were better than Clicks best offer, you need to look at more than just the headline discount % though for an accurate comparison.

In Victoria, I was advised of price increases from December, so I went shopping around. I've moved to another provider and got the call from my existing one trying to offer me a sweeter deal to stay. I told them that this was underhanded, and they should simply be offering the best deals they can. I don't like having to bully my way out to get the best prices. So I'm leaving. I know I'll have to go shopping around again in the future. It's how it is.

    • I have signed up with Origin as well yesterday, my low 6kwh/day usage works out cheaper with Origin rates rather than Alinta's.

Consumers here have really been ripped off for too long. But its a good thing we are getting more global companies coming in like Amazon, which will shake up the retail sector. Tesla just completed their battery power storage plant project as promised to the S.A gov, and within 100 days as promised. Probably the first energy project to be on time and on budget lol…

Competition in energy resale is good but the root of the problem is still the energy generating companies, we really need efficient and lower cost ones to bring down the cost of power. hopefully more overseas companies will enter the energy sector

I joined Click Energy mid 2017 as part of a deal from the "50 Up club". The prices were very competitive but within 4 months I had two price rises, totalling a 45% increase. Needless to say I moved on to another provider. The price increases were stated in the calculations but the fact they had increased was in very fine print. I only picked it up because I enter every energy bill into a spread sheet to check their calculations. Why would I bother to that you ask? You have to receive one of there bills to understand. There are credits applied from previous bills and carry over values, it's purposely confusing. I suspect their business model is less than ethical and is based on ripping off complacent users who don't really check their bills thoroughly.

    • lol Click actually emailed me a new offer of 27% discount. Even with that their rates would still be higher than Origin's, especially for the special tariff which makes up almost half of my energy usage. Now any email from Click goes direct to my Spam folder. They still owe me $64 in credit which I suspect I will have to call up to have refunded soon.

      • I've just moved to Amaysim for Electricity. They are about 10% cheaper than the next cheapest supplier. I've been with them for mobile for over 8 years and never had a problem.

        • yeah i considered amaysim too but origin had a better rate for me here in SEQ(south east queensland)

Plus i read some complaints that Amaysim bought over Click and thats why the rates were jacked up.

I have been a long time amaysim mobile customer too. Currently even using their 100GB data for $70/28days as my main internet connection.
