Best Website to Trade Crypto Currency in Australia?

Hello OZBargainians,

Crypto have finally gained my interest (I know I am late for the party) but yet happy to "gamble" some of my hard earned money. I have been keeping my eyes on Litecoin, etherium, and ripple as it is already too late for the bitcoin game. I have made an account with BTCMarkets and installed Electrum Wallet (only supports Litecoins). I had plans to buy Litecoins and ripple coins and HODL, but I am interested in day to day trading with etherium. Does anyone here in the do crypto trading, who can advise me the best exchange site that is cheaper & convenient for daily trades? Furthermore, any suggestion for a trusted wallet that supports multiple cryptocurrencies?

Thanks,
TD.

  • i use btcmarkets, but only a few grand in it. i dont use any wallets, so not that safe, but money i don't care if i lose. 1/3 ripple , 1/3 eth, 1/3 litecoin

    • I am tossing between litecoin and etherium. I can but 3 litecoins or one of each. Market screams etherium but my personal instinct says litecoin will take over.

  • Anyone using coinspot?

    • What have you invested in?

They are very expensive and their buying exchange rates are higher than others:) Use BTC markets, best for Australians, in terms of fees.

      • Coinspot has so many coins tho so good if you don't want the hassle of transfering bitcoin to a US exchange

I have a verified account but I haven't traded with them yet, seems like the only option for me as I'm trading DOGE

  • BTC Markets but their fees are shit.

    • Yes looking for an alternative for trading.

      • I tend to use BTC Markets to deposit AUD and then buy a crypto and send it to Bittrex. Screw paying more than 0.25% every single trade.

        • Great idea. Can you tell me more, so I buy a crypto but how do I send it to Bittrex?

        • @TurkishDelight:

You simply withdraw it from BTCM to your Bittrex deposit address.

        • @nurries: Bittrex vs Binance? Isn't binance open to more cryptos?

Probably this has all the info you need: http://www.bitcoinreviews.com.au/#compare

I am leaning towards www.independentreserve.com as they are slightly cheaper than www.btcmarkets.net

Honestly, if you want to make money on this stuff you need to be first in.

Tell you what, i'll make my own coin, call it Cloudycoin, i'll only make 1 mill available (less than the 21m bitcoin has) and you can buy them in my ICO (Initial Coin Offering) @ $1 each. one day when they hit $10,000 you'll be very rich.

As I said, I am not into bitcoins. Plenty of altcoins that aren't too late to hop onto.

I think you missed my point. But that’s ok

        • What did I miss? Are you pointing it to the market cap?

        • @TurkishDelight:

the point is all these currencies can be created out of thin area, every currency you mentioned can be just made and sold by anyone with a click of a button, so if i created a CloudyCoin why would you buy it? if you wouldn't buy CloudyCoin why would you buy Bitcoin?

It seems like you are buying Bitcoin coz othesr are buying Bitcoin, and others are buying Bitcoin coz some others are buying it. But is that a good reason to buy it? :)

        • @cloudy: Roadmaps.

Certainly not to late to hop in. With the recent surges in the top 5 coins it's just getting started.
Anyone who says this has no clue.

      • I hate to rain on your parade, but try looking for an asset that kept climbing when it had already seen gains of over 30,000%
'Just getting started' is just plain wrong

  • In relation to cryptocurrency wallets, what you should be looking for are cold storage wallets. This allows to keep your cryptocurrency (offline, no access to internet so it cannot be hacked).

    The 3 main ones are:

    1. Trezor
    2. Nano Ledger S
    3. KeepKey

Nano Ledger S seems to have the support for the most cryptocurrencies although Trezor is viewed to be more "popular".

  • I use IndependentReserve and it's UI is pretty easy to use. I'm happy with their 0.5% transaction fee and no AUD withdraw fee. I even emailed them asking if they will have an iOS version soon, and they replied it's on their list.

Recently a Chinese-background exchange Houbi entered the Austrlia market with competitive 0.2% transaction fee but $5 AUD withdraw fee. May give it a try if I have a large amount to exchange.
