Apple TV Remote - How Do You Select Something?

I have just bought an Apple TV 4k.
I can use the remote to scroll - but I don't know how to select something!
I tried long press, and tap. Nothing works.

I can control the Apple TV using my iPad OK.
But…
How do you use the supplied remote to select the item you are on?

    To select an item, highlight it, then press to click the Touch surface.

      Thanks. I thought that was what I was doing. But it didn't select.
      Do you need to apply pressure, or just hold your finger down?

        It's a click button like a mouse.

        Push down on the touch surface.

          Got it!
          I was treating the surface like an iPad, expecting a touch to select it.
          Never thought to click it like a mouse!
