Vegas Pro 14 Edit Software - US $20 (~AU$27) - Part of Humble Bundle

310

Just heads up that Vegas Pro 14 Edit edition is available as part of a recent Humble Bundle. Pay at least US$20 to get access to Vegas Pro 14 Edit.

After a quick bit of research, the Edit edition appears not to have Blu Ray authoring and does not have access to additional video effects. See this link for a product comparison: https://web.archive.org/web/20170609130952/http://www.vegasc… (link updated thanks to Battler)

Having used a variety of video editing software over the last 20 years Vegas is easily my favourite in terms of its compatibility, power and ease of use. I highly recommend it.

What are the licensing terms? Can it be activated on more than 1 machine? It's not the Steam version is it?

Also it appears that a difference between Vegas Pro 14 and 15 is a big difference in CPU/GPU utilisation.

    • I actually don't know the answer to these questions. Sorry.

The Humble site mentions giving you access to keys:

'Software keys can be redeemed according to the individual instructions on your download page. For more information, please check the full system requirements here.'

System requirements mention operating systems, but don't mention Steam:

      'Vegas Pro 14 Edit

      Windows key

      OS: Windows 7 (64-bit), 8 (64-bit), 10 (64-bit)
      Processor: 2 GHz
      Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Supported NVidia, AMD/ATI, or Intel GPU with at least 512 MB of memory.
Hard Disk Space: 1.5 GB hard drive space

      Languages: English'

Perhaps anyone with experience in Humble Bundles can chime in? I've never purchased one before. I've purchased this, but I am working and haven't had a chance to look at installing anything.

Interesting comparisons between 14 and 15. I've personally only used 14 and I am happy with it, even if 15 performs better this still represents good value for money for those not wanting to pay full price. I did also read a passing comment that someone prefered 14 over 15 as some issues had been introduced.

From every other Humble Bundle I've ever bought, it's always been activated through steam. So I would presume this is the Steam Version.
EDIT: Ok so I just bought it….and instead of saying "Reveal Steam Key" it is says "Reveal Magix Key". So it might actually be the non-steam version.

      • does it mean, this can be use on 1 machine only or can be move to new machine in future ?

Not sure. Maybe…..http://www.magix.com/us/support/technical-support/#c69706 (Got to the UNINSTALLING SOFTWARE section)
EDIT: Appears you can uninstall and reinstall on another machine -> here

    OP's product comparison is v15.
    Internet archive provides a v14 comparison: https://web.archive.org/web/20170609130952/http://www.vegasc…

    • Good catch! Thanks for posting.

Would you still recommend after Magix's takeover?

    • I haven't been editing recently and Vegas 14 is the latest version I have used. It still performs as I expected. I can't comment on version 15.

apparently 15 brings in a significant CPU/GPU boost, but potentially only when using specific NVIDIA cards. For a casual it won't make much of a difference.

No, VEGAS Pro 15 release date "VEGAS Pro 15 leverages modern hardware for accelerated encoding and decoding, including support for Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) and other technologies" - QSV is on every modern Intel CPU/iGPU and will benefit everyone.

        • @AlexF: ….I have AMD ;P

well, that's what you get for being a non-conformist. Nobody likes radicals. I suggest rethinking your life strategy and get with the program.

I bought v14 when it was released and Magix are actually developing it, unlike Sony who let it flounder for a few years.

FWIW I'd echo the OPs comments about being a really powerful but easy to use editor. For $20 it's a no-brainer if you need to edit clips/videos.

yeah was going to post that Vegas 14 is quite old and didn't buy the last Humble Bundle with it included as didn't feel it was worth it.

    • This is tempting me, I used Vegas 7 and older versions heaps (all pirated) but it'd be good to have a modern legit version. Was about to pull the trigger but your comment has put me off (at least until I observe your reply), did you say that because you think V15 will be showing up in a bundle at this pricepoint anytime soon?? I won't be editing soon however wouldn't want to miss such a good price if it won't be repeated….

      • no way will Vegas Pro 15 be in a bundle for this price any time soon. For $20 USD you may as well buy this and all the addons as - Vegas 14 isn't as old as I initially thought it was, it came out in September 2016.

I don't know if there is a cheap upgrade option to go to Vegas Pro 15 if you already own 14.
