Cats make great pets, particularly if you don't have much space. They are clean and, well socialised, are very affectionate. However, pets are costly to maintain, food, toys, medical expenses, etc so the freebie is nice, but take all costs into account.
I've adopted an adult cat before and they can be better than having a kitten. They are usually already house trained, they are less likely to run under your feet and are a bit more child proof. Cats can live into their late teens so even an adult cat can have a fair bit of mileage.

Pet ownership is a responsibility but, also, a great joy. Rubbing a cats tummy and listening to it purr has to be one of the best stress beaters in the world.
Give Jake a pat from me, he really is beautiful. I suspect he needs a lot of walking each day. My niece has a staffy, it is an abolutely beautifully natured dog.
They get a bad rap and Jake looks imposing but he is the sweetest dog I've ever owned.
