Best place to buy homewares/kitchenwares

Hi everyone,

My sister and bro-in-law will be moving to an apartment in the city (melbourne) and will need to buy a couple of stuff, mainly microwave, vacuum cleaner and some kitchenware (kettles etc). Just wondering which stores offer good value stuff? A friend suggested Good Guys as they might be able to offer a discount if you buy several items from them. Was thinking of Godfreys for vacuum cleaners but most of their stuff seem pretty expensive!

So was wondering if any ozbargainers here know any good places to shop/look around, thanks!

  • Good guys will often do you a good deal if buying several items esp if paying cash. They also sell vacuums. Try checking out clearance centres for HN etc - maybe near DFO/Brandsmart areas. In sydney, HN clearance centre is very reasonable.
    Online works too.
Bigbrownbox is suppose to be cheap and can get money back with moneybackco (if the link registers properly)
Appliances online: i've used them before, they are great and deliver within 24hrs with excellent customer service. Will give you velocity rewards points via the velocity website.

    • My sister just found out about appliances online and found the microwave to be cheaper than good guys, so might give them a try :)

They'll be making a trip down to Ikea which has kmart and godfreys closeby in richmond so hopefully able to get some good deals!

  • I have made several purchase at Good Guys, they're not bad. As usual, their first offer is always just average. So you must do your own research online first to get an idea of how low the items can go for.

  • I think people have had good guys price match their best online price through appliances online or big brown box. So research online then get price match instore. I've had David jones pricematch a wine fridge before.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it. They've made their first round of purchases at Ikea/kmart yesterday, microwave and vacuum cleaner's probably the only remaining items left. They bought a $39 vacuum at kmart that was on clearance, it was a piranha vacuum that is capable of collecting wet/dry materials. Probably not the best choice, but if it doesn't work well my bro in law was just gonna return it back to kmart.
