It's usually a very small discount.. it never excites over the years..
It's to coincide with the annual Black Friday sales in the US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_%28shopping%29). Although they rarely match the deals they do for the US Apple site (and other retailers for that matter).
