Domestic flight - can I bring an umbrella?

Hi all.
I'm going on a one day trip to Sydney tomorrow and rain is forecast. Can I bring an umbrella on board?

It's all good. Plane cabins are covered now.

  • You can take a travel/collapsible umbrella on board no troubles - I do it all the time.

You could have issues if you tried to take a golf umbrella on board as it probably won't stow anywhere. Stick to a regular travel umbrella and you'll be all good.

  • Yep. Full size, too.

Source: Did it once for a Jetstar flight a few years ago for a day trip to Melbourne. Flight attendant was all well done you for thinking ahead. MAJOR drama when I left it behind in Myer Melbourne at closing time … I had to buy a perfume to get that particular umbrella; I wasn't leaving the state without it!

  • username checks out - bring that along too :)

I have often brought a full size umbrella on Jetstar between Melbourne and Sydney (although it is not as huge as a golf umbrella). Chuck it on top of a few bags in overhead luggage. No staff has ever mentioned anything to me when boarding either.

    • I've got a light rain jacket I'm planning to bring. My duffle coat is a bit heavy to lug around if I end up not needing it. Forecast temp is 24?

haha you're right about that, and sydney can be unexpectedly humid too so nothing heavy.

    lol

  • If you need an umbrella on board, getting wet is probably the least of your concerns

  • Thanks all. :)
