Boxing Day sale - worth waiting for?

Hi, i've never bought anything during boxing day sale but this year i'm wondering if it's worth holding out till boxing day to get a brand new ipad mini?
or is it better to get one before Xmas?

Also- i was considering to get it from a shop rather than online since the shops are generally "Australian manufacturer warranty" and the online ones are "direct import supplier warranty", Hence the question on if it is worth waiting

thoughts? Thanks

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2017

  • Why not the iPad (2017)? Newer and has better specs, and it's only a tiny more expensive than the iPad Mini 4 RRP.

    • As someone who's also in the market for an iPad mini 4, it's too big for me. Won't fit in half the bags I own

Good excuse to buy another bag.

        • I have enough 😂

When the mini is too big for you… Just use a Galaxy S8+ or iPhone X :P

No thanks and no thanks (can't stand Samsung and while I'm happy to use an iPad mini I would not cope with an iPhone anything)

@kerfuffle: Haha funnily enough that is my stance as well. Love my ipad (9.7 inch), hate iPhones and can't stand Samsung.

Look for some 6 inch phones maybe, there are a lot out there that aren't terrible. Or just get a 7 inch tablet, they are quite cheap.

@pennypincher98: I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem so I have to get an iPad mini. Plus I want all the cool accessories that Apple get that no one bothers making for my HTC ahahaha

I prefer having two devices (three if you count my Walkman too) so as to preserve battery life and etc. I'm hoping to get my hands on a Nokia 8 within the second quarter of next year.

@kerfuffle: Haha what HTC do you have out of interest? Lol I had to go into a major shopping centre just to find a case for mine!

What cool accessories does apple have? Haven't even checked them out lol so don't know what I am missing!

        • @pennypincher98: HTC 10 which is currently annoying me due to the inconsistent battery level.

Mainly covers haha. I used to have this LEGO iPad mini cover where the back was a LEGO plate so I could stick actual LEGO pieces on it! I've been doing some research for my potential new one and Moleskine does a cover too (but of course being Moleskine is $$$). No one makes official pretty covers for HTC; be lucky if Spigen did a case for them hahaha

        • @kerfuffle: Haha doesn't the U11 come with an official Spigen case? From memory?

So, overall you wouldn't recommend the HTC 10? Looking to replace my aging M8, but don't want to give up its beautiful metal body for a glass one like the U11. Leaning towards HTC One X10 as a mid ranger but I can be swayed :)

        • @pennypincher98: The 10 is great as long as you don't screw up the battery like I did. I'm not going U11 for the same reason: glass body which I would undoubtedly smash (which is why I stuck to HTC).

        • @kerfuffle:

The 10 is great as long as you don't screw up the battery like I did.

Do you mind if I ask what you did to screw up the battery?

        • @pennypincher98: Probably constantly charging it along with constantly dropping it ahahahaha! Gotta get it fixed under warranty. Once I get my iPad mini 4 with cellular xD

    • Why not the iPad (2017)?

They were 20% off on the weekend at Myer…

      • Hi. Is this the weekend just passed? Oddly i was surfing the web for every physical store in Au but didn't notice the 20% discount.

        • Hi. Is this the weekend just passed?

          yep, on their ebay store.

a friend got an ipad for 20% off the apple retail price.

Its because of the size. Mini is just nice

About the warranty, there's no such thing as "direct import supplier warranty" with Apple products. Apple honours warranties no matter where you've purchased them.

    • Hi. I was just been told when i check with websites like COTD their warranty is with their supplier and for physical shops their warranty is with Apple direct. Did i understood it wrong?

      • It’s been awhile since I’ve worked in retail selling Apple products. My understanding is that Apple products have international warranties that cover the first 12 months. Your second year covered by Australian Consumer Law is a bit of a grey area, but if you purchase Apple Care then you’re covered for whatever coverage provided. I’ll see if I can find evidence.

  • OP is in Perth, come to eastern states for decent sales. Usually electrical products like TV's and audio equipment go for cheap as retailers want to cash up in the holiday period before everyone leaves for summer holidays
