Tradie Refusing to Finish Job or Refund Deposit

Hi All,
First time posting!

I had a tradie do work at my house who was from a certain company.
He had installed my wardrobes with no issues so I went with him to do my fly screens and flooring.
He left my fly screens unfinished missing back sliding door and said he will complete it when he is back next week when he installs the floor boards. I paid him in full for the fly screens thinking he would return next week and also gave him a deposit for the flooring as he asked so he can order the parts to complete it all the following week.

After not hearing from him I called the company he was working at and I was told they have no records of any of my jobs and he is currently trading under his own business ABN and doing jobs behind the companies back so he was let go.

Tradie is now refusing to do the job or refund my deposit.

Followed up with fair trading and they have told me the company has nothing to do with it and to follow it up with the tradie.

Proof I have is bank deposits with description of the job going into his bank accounts and text messages.

Do I have a case to get my deposit back?

Update-

Named and shamed the company over social media which the tradie responded with a refund ! Thanks for your help guys on this matter!

    Do you have an invoice or receipt proving he was supposed to do the job ? If so then yes, if you blindly deposited the money with no proof whatsoever, then technically yes, as you have a verbal agreement, but the onus is on your to prove it.

    lesson learnt - never ever ever pay in full - paying a deposit is OK but a risk, but the entire amount is nuts, even if you have used the tradie before
